I am a bit miffed really. I decided to buy a first scanner and bought a mid range one in case there wasn't much to receive. I read the spec on the Uniden BC92XLT with close call. I couldn't find a manual for the English version but was led to believe it was the same as the Australian version which has close call. So I am a bit disappointed when I buy one and it hasn't got it. It also doesn't have the five automatic search bands of the other two. It only has two.
Why does the UK lag behind or have stricter rules than everyone else? What is the point in taking it off the UK version. We always get second class goods here. All I can think is it's because we have a second class Prime minister.

Normally UK versions have always had full coverage, check out Javiation.co.uk so I don't understand why you would get a restricted version there.

Thanks for your reply. Javiation UK don't seem to do this model of Uniden. Uniden.com Don't even list UK as an option. There is United States, Japan, Australia New Zealand, Hong Kong & China. They don't even list any UK service agents and I didn't get any guarantee information in the box. Normally when I buy electronic goods the instruction manual lists the manufacturers website and helpline telephone numbers.
Very odd?

Sounds like the similar issue here in Canada...

When ever there is a contest going on, you always read the fine print "excluding Quebec" (which is one of the Provinces within Canada). Not sure why poor old Quebec is always left out of contests?

Hi there Simon , thats the reason i bought my 246t and 330t from a guy i contacted through ebay.
I sent about 5 emails to different companys about shipping to Northern Ireland and not one replied i done a search on ebay got a contact and he replied inside 10 mins , so he got a sale on now 2 scanners.
There is a site ukmidlandscanner.co.uk and the guy that runs it has been trying to have a discussion with uniden europe but they have now stoped replieing to his emails as well , so no one knows when or if close call will be coming to the uk.

Cheers
Chris

The next 'batch' of Euro UBC72/92 coming early next year will have close call.
Some shops in Europe sell the 'US' BC246T with close call.

Thanks for your replies. Just one question. Do US scanners work o/k in the UK. I was under the impression that the stepping was different and that some frequencies would be missed. Is this correct.? Is the cellphone bands the same frequencies in th USA as England? otherwise it may be ilegal to import one or buy one as these could be open frequencies on a US scanner.
Any info on this would be very helpful.

Thanks for this info. I have just been to the ukmidlandscanner site. I like the look of the 246T with trunktracker also. Is this working o/k for you? Are there any problems? Please let me know. I would love one of these.

The step raster in US and Europe is different. The 92 has fixed steps so this could be an issue. The 246 has adjustable steps so no problem there.
It is illegal to import a Euro scanner that covers US cellular into the US. Since we don't have these restrictions in Europe it is no problem importing a US scanner into the UK.

Hi Simon,

I`v had no probs with either the 246 or the 330 they are both very good scanners.
As for te trunktracking can`t comment on that as not a lot of use for that in ni.

That's good. Can you tell me if there is anything interesting on the 1240-1300 MHZ band or is it dead. I dont really get much on my 92xlt from 406 MHZ upwards but it doesn't have this top band.

Thanks

I have just ordered a 2456T but I doubt if I will receive it before Christmas. I have been reading the manual that I downloaded and see that I will have to set up some custom searches. I will be able to change the step size for the bands in this way to europe.
I will keep my other scanner as it covers the Fire service 70mhz bands that the 246t doesn't. Not much bother this though.
Thanks everybody for your help in pointing me this way!
