I'd be interested in your analogy on how well the AntennaCraft ST2 could even function in the midst of pro106import's cluster?

Then when the girlfriend drops by and we REALLY need to impress someone we pull out scanner #3 which not only does what scanners 1 & 2 do, but also has tons of shiny chrome, blinky lights, knobs (who's only function is to impress people) and shoots out fireworks. :)

i must be hanging out with the wrong crowd. your girlfriend have a sister?

Most of the time I have my SDS200 running on the digital stuff and I run one of my Pro106/PSR500's on the analog stuff with some overlap to not miss much. The SDS is pretty pitiful on VHF, so the old GRE's are definitely useful in their senior years. When I lived in Las Vegas and the MGM fire was happening, all my old Regency Monitoradios that were getting dusty in the closet and let me and my GF hear all the crazy stuff going on. I had just bought my first programmable scanner and it did the searching and the old tunable radios did most of the listening.
In the pre digital days, my trusty and still working PRO-2004 was next to my bed. I had a pair of 2005's in my radio/computer room. My dog Gus in his final days listening to the 2004 a week or so before the end. If the 2004 was off or turned down to where there was nothing coming out of it, he rarely slept on my bed..

About 14 years earlier, same bed, different sheets, and Gus had yet to change into what he would be later. Not happy to have a camera in his face while he was napping.

No reason that wouldn't work. I'm talking about how his is bundled in the middle of all those other mast and antennas.

Sorry for the late reply, I was busy putting up a couple more antennas, lol. Just kidding. Actually, the ST-2 isn't too impressive in its present location being only 7 feet off the ground and surrounded by a lot of metal. It is a pretty decent antenna for the price that it was at the time. But my Diamond Discone out in the back out performs it by a mile. I just use the ST-2 for local stuff instead of using an inside antenna that is prone to picking up local computer QRM ect...
So to stay on topic, I use many radios at the same time for most of the same reasons that most have commented on in this thread. A scanner is just that. It scans until it finds a signal, and stays there until your settings allow it to continue looking for the next signal. Meanwhile, you may be missing something much more important to hear. You won't know unless you have a seperate radio going ( preferably also having its dedicated antenna ). The most recent event where the setup shines is New Years Eve. My centralized location being 60 miles east of NYC and 60 miles west of RI and 40 miles south of Hartford and 10-20 miles North of LI. allows a whole slew of things to listen to. Being feet from Long Island sound at an elevation of 130 feet, my antennas don't have to be very high off the ground. The masts are only 15 feet and they sit on the ground. So New Years eve, I was monitoring :
Standard C558A Dual BAnd Ham HT- MILFORD FD (VHF SIDE) , SOUTHWEST CMED (UHF SIDE)
BCD396XT- LOCAL AGENCIES, NYC FEDERAL, COAST GUARD, CT. STATE INTEROPS, MILITARY CAP
KENWOOH TH5210- LOCAL VHF, CG P25, LIFESTAR, WABC CHOPPER 7
WHISTLER WS1088- NYPD CW1,2,3, NYPD SOD, NYC CW EMS, NYC CW FDNY, NYC TRANSIT DIST.1
ANYTONE 868- CMED MED 9, MED 10, MED 52, CMED MED 6, MILFORD FD
SDS100- CTSP TROOP1 AND G SIMULCAST, NYC DOITT P25 SYSTEM
UNICATION G5- METRO25 P25 (GRAND CENTRAL MTA)
WHISTLER TX1- FOXWOODS NXDN SYSTEM

The Scanners are pretty pitiful in comparison, and ole Gus was far more useful in his senior years.

That's what you said right? That's what I read anyway, before my screen got all blurry and out of focus.

I'd say more, but I have to go rub a fuzzy white chin for a while.

I run two 536HPs: One at the QTH & one mobile plus an SDS100. I primarily use these for my day to day analog, P25/DMR/NXDN monitoring
AOR AR-DV1 & DV10: Handy to have for the digital modes my Unidens above pick up as well as those not picked up by the Unidens: D-Star & YSF, Tetra, etc. These are communications receivers with bands the scanners do not cover (LW, MW, SW/HF, etc)
Anytone AT-878UV dual band amateur transceiver. Perhaps the best DMR radio I own
I also own various SDRs which when paired with a laptop or tablet and DSD+ give me a visual of the radio waves around me.
