Hi all
I’m just getting into this I’m not super good with forums or SDRs either apparently lol but I’m in the Essex county area I have no idea where I should post this thread if there’s a sdr specific section opposed to legit scanners but I’m looking for help. I’m attempting to monitor the NJIC system but my main focus would be North Arlington Belleville Bloomfield Nutley area focusing on PD only for now no FD or EMS talk groups I’m using two tuners running on sdrtrunk
I am getting decently clear transmissions coming in but my problem is that some transmissions will get cut short and also if a transmission comes in from Bloomfield PD1 (as it appears on sdrtrunk) it actually is somehow a Kearny/Newark/Harrison PD area transmissions idk if that’s just how a simulcast system works because the frequencies are always changing or if I set something up wrong when programming aliases something like that

Again apologies if this is totally in the wrong place sorry

Post some screen shots of your SDR channel setup.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for but you can see in the first screenshot that the Alias appears as Blpd1 but it’s from union and the talk group values (which I’m assuming is in the “TO”section) are not matching I believe for blpd it’s 4789, 4791, 4793

Looks like you have the right channel setup, but you need to do something about your talkgroups. I would recommend creating a NJICS Alias List and import all of the NJICS talkgroup IDs in from Radio Reference.

The ID's you have setup right now are not Bloomfield:

4451 - NJIT PD Ch 1
4279 - UC PD Patrol
4201 - PIP PD P-1

The ID's you see in the "To" column can be looked up here: New Jersey Interoperability Communications System (NJICS) Trunking System, Statewide, Multi-State

Do not pay much attention to the "From" column when it comes to the alias, these will not match the way you think they should.

If your transmisions are getting cut off, you may need to play around with the gain controls for your tuners.

LOTS of trial and error with this stuff.

I did import all talk groups direct from RR I think I’m going to try do delete all aliases and start fresh with a new import is there any good vids or links I can watch so I can follow along with someone setting up njics I’m a lot better with visuals ive seen people do walk throughs but I feel like this west orange simulcast is a whole different bread with so much traffic going through

Also is the two dongles enough for what I want to listen to?

I'd agree that from what RRDB is showing, the cited TG's don't appear to be for Bloomfield. I can't speak for how the NJICS system on RRDB gets populated by admins or is managed but from experience with other systems, I've found that sometimes things aren't always what they seem to be and I've had to add in missing TG's or ignore old obsolete ones that are no longer being actively used as a mature P25 system has evolved over years of agency changes.

You can check here to see what the host is streaming to OpenMhz for NJICS Union County area - https://www.openmhz.com/system/njicsunion. Doesn't seem to be anyone streaming much for Essex County other than Newark FD. Once you get things figured out with your system on SDRTrunk, it is fairly easy to create a system on OpenMhz to stream your system to.

This is a software configuration issue, not an RRDB issue, as illustrated by his screenshots showing three distinct TGID's aliased as Bloomfld PD 1 when they have very different aliases in the RRDB.

Yes, I meant to imply that the author's configuration of alias's in SDRTrunk was probably out of sorts with that which is in RRDB. However, I have come across systems elsewhere that I have configured in SDRTrunk using RRDB that have had errors or omissions probably due to changes over time that might not have been updated by whomever handles that for those systems. Thanks.
