Thanks for the offer, Ben. I tried 6 more before I found one, here, that exhibits the issue (the bad form that is not updatable by any means I have at my disposal). Engineers are studying this as a BRIGHT RED issue.

So this is a dongle issue and not a radio issue ?

So that means a fix for this "BRIGHT RED ISSUE" will be issued 6 months to a year from now? From past "issues" it's taken longer than 6 months, many still pending since day one.

Nobody is holding their breath (at least I hope not!).

Just updated to the new firmware..How do I go back to scan my favorite list instead of it showing the custom scan list?

Even with the new firmware, that's what the WiFi Dongle firmware will show 0.00. The scanner firmware works just fine. It also is looking like those who purchased these radios in the past three to six months are having better success that those who purchased back in January of last year. Working if there was some slight hardware change or part change in the manufacturing process that engineering did not consider and when they tested those 20 or so units prior to release, they were all newer units.

FYI: Mine updated and is working fine and my 536 is the early one that I pre-ordered when they first rolled out.

I'm everywhere Focker!
Add me to the list of fails...sort of.

Mine wouldn't work on my aftermarket microSD card, once I went back to the factory card it worked.

Hmm...I wonder if any other fails are using aftermarket cards?

Same here, this changes the game man. If someone or Radio Reference can figure out a way to interface the streaming software to the WIFI on this scanner? You wouldn't have to worry about tying up a sound card/and computer. It all could be just do by WIFI!

That, my friends, would be sweet.

Wouldn't the streaming software require a computer?

My SD card is the one that came with the scanner.

I am using an aftermarket card and it did load successfully. I also had long ago updated the dongle firmware. that being said, I cannot keep the stream running for more than 5 minutes and it drops out. I am running Windows 8.1 if that means anything. I have been playing with this for over an hour and think I am just going to stop for the night before I go nutz.

I tried it with the original card. Still no luck. I don't see how the SD card plays a factor in the wifi update. The update just appears to be hit or miss. I'm more on the thought that it maybe something to do with the dongle production dates. Sort of like the initial release of BCD536HP with headphone issues. Both of mine that failed are from the first release.

Add me to the Error Code: 0004 list. I followed the instructions to the letter. Wish we could update the dongle with BC-WF1 Updater like last time as a backup. For now I reverted back to 1.03.03 Firmware on the 536 and my WiFi now shows 0.00. Before it showed 5.01.

Having the same issue with not being able to update the firmware (even after following the instructions on the Uniden Wiki page).

For those who can't get their wifi firmware updated you can bypass the firmware update on the boot screen by doing the following:

1. Unplug the dongle
2. Power on the scanner (and wait for the "waiting for wifi" message to clear).
3. Connect the scanner to your PC and select mass storage mode.
4. Open up windows explorer and navigate to the drive for your scanner
5. Go to the BCDx36HP => firmware folder
6. Move the following file somewhere else (I moved mine to my desktop)
BC-WF1_V7_28.bin

The scanner will now boot without trying to do the wifi update or prompt for a wifi connection.

wise871, think you could use this bin file with the old updater?

I tried the BC-WF1_FirmwareUpdater and it just froze when trying to update the dongle with BC-WF1_V7_28.bin. I also tried the previous dongle firmware without any luck, same thing, application stopped responding. I still believe it's an early model dongle issues.

My scanner are running fine. I removed the bin file from my SD card.

Thinking the same thing about it being a batch of bad dongles. We might all be able to collectively identify if this is the case as each dongle will have a unique MAC address. For those who have tried to update the wifi firmware, what is your dongle's mac address (you can get this in the wifi information menu on your scanner after it boots up)? Did the update work?

I did the same thing...no luck. I was so looking forward to this!

Hmmmm... Works fine here. Did drop out a few times. But, I went and fixed hamburgers for dinner and came back and it was still working away. So, somethings weird.

What sucks is I have the same Mac series installed in my car. It will be a pain to remove it if it comes to that. I have one recent release dongle that begins with 44 but I already toasted two dongles.
