Has this system been re banded recently?

In the past 2 months I have been getting some strange reception. At times I can't hear units in my own town, while at the same time I'm hearing Animal Control across the county. Sometimes transmissions just drop out in the middle of a sentence. Sometimes over the traffic I hear a very loud static sound, like a shop vac sucking air through a fan, through a phone speaker. Sometimes I hear the sound of traffic not being scanned correctly, with the loud buzz noise, and 5 beeps at the end, however when i hear this the signal is very broken and chirpy.

I use a pro 164, and for the longest time I was scanning Will County without any issue, until recently. Sometimes it scans fine, sometimes It's so annoying I just have to turn it off, so I don't know if my antenna is just broken or what.

I have dropped the radio on the concrete several times, but I don't think that has anything to do with it because the rest of the scanner works fine. It's just Will Co. I'm having a problem with. How much do the specialized 800mhz antennaes cost and is that something I should try?

Trench,
It sounds like you are scanning the trunked system like a conventional system. What it sounds like is you are scanning the 8 frequencies and not talkgroups and if so then monitoring the system will be nearly impossible.

Does that static sound like this---> http://www.w2sjw.com/sounds/EDACS Wideband Control.mp3

No it's not the control, I have it setup scanning the whole system. It's almost just like bad reception, but it's pretty random when it happens. I'm thinking, more and more, it's just damage the scanner sustained when i dropped it.

I have the freqs. programmed correctly. I'll try and record it and post it here

Double check and make sure the frequencies are in the proper LCN. I seen something very simular happen to a 396T and a few of the freqs were not in the proper LCN.

I did see today what your talking about "Trench" on my PRO92, on freqy 851.7625 there was something bothering that freqy and it would "flicker" and make some static sound like another station was trying to use it??...Did not happen on the scanners on outside antennas...The PRO92 is on a attic antenna....This was this morning , as of now its working OK again.....

Yeah of course, after I mention the issue my radio hasn't made an odd peep for 2 days. Maybe it was just ice on the antenna array or something

I can hear 5 beeps after each transmission too on my BC BCT8. I followed the directions in the Uniden manual and entered the frequencies into bank 4. Trunk M shows up on the top left of the window. I haven't heard any traffic at all since yesterday on the Will County Trunk system. Can anyone advise??

The channels need to be programmed in numerical order as they are labeled in the data base

Also, make sure the mode on all channels is set to ED, and must be programmed in a bank starting on 01 so for example, I have mine setup on band 1 channel 01 so my scanner reads 101 for a channel.

Also, regarding my problem. I noticed the bad reception is in New Lenox only, as soon as I pass the borders of New Lenox I get crystal clear scanning on the county EDACS as far away as Bolingbrook. I have to do some more experimenting to narrow down what is causing the interference

Switching to ED and using a different antenna made the difference.

The audio is garbled and choppy as of 11 pm tonight. It was much better earlier.

Thanks

Did anyone else hear talk about rebanding today. I heard traffic on 04-022 inquiring about it.

Also, why do I hear so much traffic from id's I don't have programmed? Will I lose traffic from stuff I have programmed if I lock out other stuff I don't want to listen to?

I heard it again at 9:00 pm 1/17/2011. Someone on the Will County system said rebanding was being concluded and portable radio use was no longer needed. .

I may have figured something out

I'm getting bad signal on Lincoln-Way transmissions only

Is it possible that because LW has so many different simulcast patched talk groups that my scanner is having a hard time choosing one?

Should i filter most of them out?

I see LW on 04-097, also on 15-097, on 04-097 the newest firmware on my GRE500 instead of saying "TYGP" it says "PTCH"=patch, when 15-097 comes up it says "TYGP".....This morning 5am the dispatcher said everyone have your radios on today for "rebanding", well they already rebanded the system but they have not added LCN7-8 freqys so this could be putting them in the LCN rotation to now make a 8 channel system...This is just my guess....

PS: Forgot, some scanners like my Uniden898 will now NOT choose TG 04-097 i noticed just 15-097 as my newer Unidens choose both as do my newer GRE/RS products, the older patches that were used in the past will be used as patches for someone else ex:15-086 was a old LW patch....

So up to this point they were not using all 8 channels? I had 8 programmed from the database.

All I know is my scanner works great everywhere except New Lenox. I'll try setting it up in a new bank with some of the LW patches and TGs filtered out see fi it helps

So far i have not heard any changes to the Will Co system, still using the 6 freqys instead of the new 2 also and still hearing LW on 04-097 and 15-097.....Even if you have some of the old patches programmed in it makes no difference, LWay will still come up on the two i printed....
