I have been using WIN500 ..... since JANUARY I have noticed I am not hearing what I have been hearing in the past . Is there something in the APCO25 that has changed . In the past I picked my towers and entered the control frequency for that tower . Recently here I have noticed a DEC and a HEX for the tower.... and it seems as though one tower serves a larger area . Do I program my WIN500 software differently now and if so what do I put where ? Or is the programming ok the way it was ?

Double check and make sure that the control channel did not change. That is the only thing I can think of. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I thought of that ..when I came here to check them I noticed NOT as many towers ...then I seen a dec and hex for the towers ,BOINK !!! Which I do NOT recall seeing a while back when I was checking the info and all the stuff was running as normal ...... last 90 days has been real quiet and I am NOT hearing things and places I had heard in the past . So I am a bit baffled at this point . And I have an old GRE PSR500 and a fairly new WS1040 .... both programmed via win500 , same programming .

Dec and Hex should not make a difference. Might want to click on the read triangle and get this thread moved to your state forum.

OH MY ... I sent this in an email to Don Starr at win500 but got it back . Here is my problem in length .
I had a GRE PSR500 and programmed it with the WIN500 software ..worked fine ...till about 4 mths ago when I noticed it was NOT hearing objects I had been hearing for all the yrs I owned it . But I also had a battery issue with the psr 500 and now IT IS being used now exclusively in the house now .....so I bought a new Whistler WS1040 I programmed it with WIN500 and it too is NOT hearing what I had heard 4 plus mths back.

In my research on RR.com I noticed that the MPSCS list (I live in MICHIGAN) had changed . Where in the past (as recently as last summer ,2017), I had TOWERS with control frequencies and alternate freqs. that I entered into the WIN500(each tower site was then numbered IE 112 120 130 etc)) . BUT recently I also noticed that NOW ... there seems to be 1 tower per small area listed, that tower has NEIGHBOR SITES that are numbered ,no location (what maybe is the OLDER previously listed tower sites I used ). Seems to look as though mpscs took the most elevated site and it functions via the other neighbor towers in its area . Each main site is about a 20 mile radius as noted on RR.com . And they are now simply numbered 1 thru 5 if memory serves me correctly . HHHMMMMM now with looking at the RR.com mpscs info ...the TOWERS listed with 1 thru 5 now have a HEX and a DEC number associated to that tower and NOT control/Alt freqs ...the neighbor sites are just a number (IE 420 312 265 , etc no control/alt freqs)...... in the past the talk group I programmed had a hex and dec(and still does) , the TOWER sites ,back then ,all had freqs listed (so this really shortened the list now ) ?????? In the WIN500 program (yes mine is the latest v2.08) I see the system list where my control/alt freqs go ..... BUT WHAT about the new HEX DEC numbers for those TOWERS ? Where do those need to go ?

If you go to this link....

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=100&tab=reports

....in the section right below the yellow box near the top you will see some “Pre-defined Report Downloads”. The first report listed is a spreadsheet version and the 3rd & 4th are pdf versions that have the site freqs.

I’m guessing you used the file titled “Site Location Data Report” under Other Reports.

When I first got my 436, I downloaded the 2nd file listed in the pre-defined section so I could re-sort all the talk groups numerically. Then I printed it out 2 sided and bound it in one of those plastic loomy binder things so as I traveled around the state with the radio searching for talk groups, I could look them up easily. That was when I was still learning how to use the radio and before I got the gps puck. Now when I travel I just load up the full database, Select the services I want to hear (usually just Police dispatch, tac and talk), set my desired listening range and go!
