I recently rearranged some banks on my Pro 93. The contents of bank 0 is now also in bank 9. I re-entered the frequencies and talk-ids I wanted in bank 9, but when I downloaded to the scanner, bank 0 was still in bank 9. What's up? I have used Win93 for several years, recently re-downloaded the latest version. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

There is an alpha tag bug in early firmware versions of the PRO-93 but it doesn't exactly match what you are reporting.

Alpha tags for channels 816 - 929 are mirrored in channels
000 - 113. It appears that only one byte was used for the
address of the channel number and that covers 256 channels
rather than 300. Channel 816 is the 257th channel and its
tag is wrapping back to the first channel, 000. All channels
up to 929 are affected, with 929 wrapping back to 113.
This affects all version 1.00 firmware PRO-93's. The PRO-2053
has version 1.01 firmware and is not afflicted with this bug.
If channel alpha tags are not entered in channels 816-929
the tags in channels 014-113 are not corrupted.

This problem affects version 1.00 but was fixed in 1.01 and 1.03.

There are firmware bugs in the older GRE trunktrackers that cause intermittent odd behavior if a trunked system is entered into bank 9. It really is best to avoid putting a trunked system in bank 9 if at all possible.

I don't think your problem is a Win93 issue.

I moved the trunked bank from 9 to 7, replaced 9 with some miscl. conventional freqs, removed the channel alpha tags from bank 0.

The result after downloading this to the scanner, was correct frequencies in all banks, but now no channel alpha tags in bank 9. I can live with that.

I'm just a little mystified at this happening after all these years of no problems with Win93 or the scanner.

Thanks again for your suggestions and comments.

Sounds like you do have firmware 1.00. Check by turning on the radio and pressing 3 during the welcoming message.

These problems have always been in the radio but you never hit the right combination of programming entries to expose them.

It's very unlikely due to the age of the radio. Several years ago Radio Shack did have a program to replace the CPU chip with one having later firmware. I sent mine in and had it done at no charge.

I never knew there was a 93 bug. I don't think my 93 was one of the batch that was effected, but I'll check.

Did any of the 2053s have the same bug?
