Hey guys,

So I've been trying to do this the past couple days for a friend and I'm at my whits end (and might start to resort to ripping out hair). I'm use to win500 program and personally I love it compared to the win96 but since pro96 doesn't play well with win500 then here I am. I have downloaded (via the web import system) all the frequencies that I want to use, however when I program it all it gives me a read out of "site00x chx" and it's starting to drive me up the wall. On the newer RS digital scanners it shows the name and such when it locks in on some one talking. I'm sure it can be done with this software and scanner too but I'm stumped on what I'm missing. All the "alpha tags" under the bank/freq list say the site# and ch# so I'm sure that's why I see that on the scanner. Is there any way I can import a list of "names" to those freq so to avoid typing them all in by hand? I'm sorry if this is a noob question or a very detailed question, but I can't figure this out at all. Here's a screen shot of what the channel listings looks like if my description was a little lacking. Thank you guys for any tips on where I'm going wrong.

Mike

uhm you use WIN96 to program a PRO 96, you can import from a win 96 file into win 500 tho I believe??

Um, if your thinking of having me import my info from win500 down to win96 then I'd ask how?? Because I couldn't find anything that would allow me to do that. If you're saying that I could go up in the programs and end up using the win500 as the sending program to the scanner then I'd be OK because I can use win500 just fine. However, I keep getting a "scanner not found" error with win500 sending to the pro96 and everything I found says that I can't use win500 to program the pro96. So can you clarify or are there any other ideas??

You imported what system you wanted from radioreference to win96 and then via cable to your Pro96? You should have had no problems.

The sending to the radio is fine. Its that when it stops on a frequency because some one is talking it was just say for example "site02 channel06" or something to that effect instead of saying for example "CHP" or "North County Fire" or "Fire Tac" or anything else. How can I get the names to import so I don't have to type them all in and also to keep things accurate with naming vs channel/freq?

I suppose the first question to ask is,

Does the Database entry have the alpha tags you expect, or is it actually showing "Site001 Ch 12" etc.

or

What System you are trying to load.

It looks and sounds as if you're programming a Motorola Trunking system. It makes no sense to tag a channel with a permanent user tag because any user Talkgroup will use that channel.

A convential (non-trunked) is when you tag the channels because the user will stay the same.

Agreed on the multiple TGs per frequency, however you might want to enter a descriptive name for the site for the CC frequency just so you know which tower the TGs are hitting............however unless the RRDB has this info you are stuck typing it in manually.

Programming a tower name in place of site name, will help during review by one of 2 methods, either using MAN Up/Down or PGM TRUNK. But only the VC will display on line 2 during scanner stopping on TG. Not always but often line 4 with correct alpha tag may provide help to determine tower location. Though many alpha tags are used by multiple towers.

A tower cheat sheet may also help.

When receiving a Motorola trunked system, line 3 of the LCD should display the alpha tag of the current control channel. Line 2 will have the current voice channel frequency.

PRO-96 Display info

The above-pictured "SiteNNN ChMM" tags are the result of options selected (or left as defaults) during the Win96 RR Web Import procedure.

Also I have problems with getting Win96 to reconize mt scanner ,it says (looking for scanner) then(timed out waiting for header) this is when trying to read my pro96. Thanks
Check device manager in control panel. Expand Ports (Com & LPT). Find and use comport assigned by windows.
Win96 configuration menu Serial Port is location for port number found above.

Also, insure the cable is plugged into the PC/IF port on radio and do not us the 3 inch pigtail.
