The 1550e is not a USB device, it is strictly 9 pin serial. You do not need USB software for it, but you do need serial hardware from your PC to the 1550e. I use a USB to serial dongle.

The last version of the WR GUI (this is the program that runs the radio) is 3.62, and it might not be compatible with your OS, depending on what you are using. I use it under XP Pro and older OS's but have had issues with it under Vista and Windows 7.

i use XP Pack 3 and installed winradio with wr1xxx-362 .
I don`t have the original serial cable anymore.
Can i use other 9Pin cables and serial to usb adapters?
The WRdiag.exe does not find any receiver and the dongle says missing driver.
should i try older installation software?
i got 344,345,....

A 9 pin serial to USB works fine. Plug the USB adapter in before starting the Winradio software.

What dongle? No dongle is included with or needed for the WinRadio WR-1550e. If you are saying you are using a USB to serial adapter, and calling that a dongle, then you will need to find the right driver for the adapter, and nothing on the WinRadio site will help you with that.

There are two major types of 9 pin serial cables, a straight through and a null modem. I am not sure which you need for the WR-1550e, but the first generic one I grabbed out of my junk drawer worked for me.

WRdiag.exe can not find a receiver until you have a working serial connection to the radio.

No reason to use an older version of the WR software, the most recent version, version 3.62, works fine if you have all of your hardware issues taken care of, and older versions will not do any better if your hardware is not straightened out.
