It's freezing rain, sleet in Hopkinsville. Overpasses are already frozen, gonna be nasty by morning. Calling for max 2" accumulation.

Don't know of any live feeds. Anyone listening in the Warren County area...there is lots of activity on Bowling Green Municipal Utilities & KY Highway Dept. I have a least one tree that if it does not come down today will probably have to. The roads seem good. Spotted power outages across the county (warren).

Late this morning and until current, the cell phone service for most providers has been out. There has been a noticeable increase of radio traffic (across all services and systems) due to this. It has been interesting to realize how people have become used to operating on both a radio system and a phone system.

...gonna be nasty by morning.
Roger.... 0045 freezing rain started in Woodford County just outside Versailles... 0100 on U.S. 60 near Jett little icy ball bearings falling from the sky... 0135 I-64 near the U.S. 127 overpass in Franklin County has those little white balls of death mixed with big fluffy snow flakes.... 0215 combined freezing rain, sleet (the freezing rain sticks, the sleet bounces) and snow along U.S. 127 in Lawrenceburg.... back in Lexington about 0300 I-75/64 looked like someone had worked the surface with a Zamboni, a very fine mixture of ice crystals and sleet was falling until about 0645.... Sorry, if you didn't see the news, the only pix I remembered to take were of the two antennae atop the mobile newsroom (notice the ice-coated tree branches and power lines in the top foto)....

crud, I remember when Wilmore was iced up like that back in the early 90's and had heating problems to boot. EMS is starting to go out now for slip and falls outside the home.

Not going to be a good night in the area.

I guess the Governor has declared a State of Emergency for KY, or parts of it at least.

Day 2!

Not going to be a good night in the area.

It was a really interesting night.... treacherous beauty; tree limbs falling tonight (28 Jan), much like the ball-bearing sleet did last night (27 Jan). I remembered to take some fotos this time.... Ice took down a power line closing West Maxwell in Lexington (first picture) for a while.... about the same time (sorry, I couldn't get there until I was driving home) a power line falls in Versailles. The plume in the first daylight foto is smoke from a burning street sign knocked down by a tree limb; the next foto is a closer examination of the situation (the sign is the greenish blob to the left of center), the power line runs the length of the street. Finally, Elkhorn Creek running near Old Versailles Road; beautiful ice, but the water level is already rising.... Power is still on at the homestead but there is a fresh back-up battery in the alarm clock, just in case. Our Wx Warnings have been canxed, thankfully.

Just got my power back. Power shut down early morning 27-Jan-2009. Lots of damage to due downed trees taking out utility poles and blocking streets. Power crews still working to get electric back up throughout entire area. Worst ice storm that many people have seen in many years. Overheard some saying it is being compared to the Ice Storm of 1902.

Didn't have much time to take any pictures of major damage... would have helped to have charged AA batteries for the camera too.

Now the flooding will begin...
Warm up coming this weekend, good for clearing the snow and layers of ice remains, but not well for those along rivers, creeks and such. :(

At least my driveway will clear up now....got ice right next to the house in the driveway due to no sun and having to drive on it the first few days, plus no power and not being at the house....

Better days are coming....60 degrees in Feb...gotta love Ohio Valley
