To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Wireless RSM PMMN4095A Help

I tried 2 windows 10 machines with several different cables and it didn't work. I used a windows 7 laptop and the firmware worked. When I turned on the RSM is still said "failure detected". I ran the firmware again with success but the end result was still the same. Which leads me to believe that there might be an internal issue with this RSM. Any clues as to how to do a factory reset on the Pmmn4095A?

So I finally figured out a solution. I had to grab the CSR BlueCore driver from here Cambridge Silicon Radio CSR BlueCore (bluetooth devices) drivers for Windows and used the IVT Corporation one. I waited until the process showed the Generic Bluetooth Radio in device manager and then updated that drive with with this one. It then ran through and popped up the installer and completed. Motorola said to buy a new one..... I think not.

Folks if you choose to try this method out, click on "Download Driver" NOT "Install Driver". That will download the driver hub junkware.

Found this searching for help as I was experiencing the same "failed install" symptoms described by others. This 100% saved me! So I downloaded the drivers for all three options, unzipped them into the same folder, opened Windows Device Manager, ran the update process, when "unknown bluetooth" popped up in Device Manager I right-clicked on it, "update driver", "Browse My Computer for Drivers", Browsed to the *TOP LEVEL* folder that I had unzipped all the driver packages into, Clicked "Next" and Voila!

I am having the same issues as others. I am getting the alternating red and green LEDs flashing and the audio "Failure Detected" when I power up the RSM. I downloaded the drivers as you suggested but I am unsure on how to proceed with Device Manager. Did you click "Scan for Hardware Changes" within Device Manager?

  1. Download the drivers for all three options and unzip them into the *SAME* folder
    1. So it should be something like: C:\drivers\microphone\driver1\, C:\drivers\microphone\driver2\, C:\drivers\microphone\driver3\
  2. Opened Windows Device Manager
    1. Leave it open and visible for the remainder of the steps
  3. Run the full device update process just like you did in the past
    1. Just like you have been doing so far
    2. Leave it open, running, and visible for the remainder of the steps
  4. For me, eventually, an "unknown bluetooth" entry popped up in Device Manager
    1. This did not happen till 50-75% of the way through the update process
    2. It *MIGHT* have been right around the time the installer hangs
  5. Right-click on the "unknown bluetooth" entry
    1. Select "update driver"
    2. Select "Browse My Computer for Drivers"
    3. Browse to the *TOP LEVEL* folder that I had unzipped all the driver packages into
      1. In my example from 1.1 it would be C:\drivers\microphone\
    4. Click "Next"
  6. IIRC the updater eventually completed
    1. Basically it acted like the installer was looking for the device, couldn't find it, hung, but then suddenly could once the driver was properly installed
    2. I did *NOT* have to restart the installer
Unfortunately beyond that I don't remember much and can't really reproduce it given I already have the drivers installed properly.

Thanks for the detailed instructions! Did you have the RSM plugged in via Micro-USB during this process? Or did you have the battery attached and have the RSM powered up? I find when I do this the RSM shuts off automatically after about 20 seconds.

When you you say "run the full update process" are you referring to "Scan for Hardware Changes"? I ask because I do not see the option you are referring to. The "unknown bluetooth" does not show for me. Thanks for any help.

I am personally unaware of a way to update the RSM with the battery attached as this blocks access to the USB port which is the only way for the computer to communicate with the RSM.

I have the RSM plugged in via USB. No changes in device manager. Even after trying "scan for hardware changes". What did you click to "Run the full device update process"?

To confirm, you have Device Manager open and running while *simultaneously* you are launching the firmware update process and letting it run till it "hangs" all while checking the Device Manager again every 15 to 30 seconds while the updater running or in the "hung" state, correct?

I got it to work! The issue was Core Isolation in Windows Security. The APS program was attempting to update the driver and pull down the firmware. Once I disabled Core Isolation the Firmware Update installed successfully. Thank you for your help!

Glad you got it to work. Can I suggest/ask that you write up how someone else could reproduce your identification and resolution? Might helps someone down the line.

Tried different cables. Tried different ports. Disabled Core Isolation. Couldn't find a reputable site for the BlueCore drivers. Tried different computers. These "solutions" did not work.

What did work, without a hitch, on the first try: Using APS version 4.5. Those background windows that pop up and disappear before you can even read them with 4.11 actually pop up and do something with 4.5 - so it's definitely a version 4.11 issue. APS Version 4.5 worked perfectly to restore my otherwise useless RSM.
