Just joined minutes ago. I'm in Vilas County and use my scanner as a 'neighborhood watch' and finding freshly dispatched roadkilled deer. Hey, that's why the freezer is full! Hoping to learn stuff here as all I know is how to program the scanner. Vilas Co. just went all digital last night (I was told) and now I've got to figure out what kind of new scanner to buy.

Oh no, they're following me <g>
Yup, it's me. Which one are you?
ha ha :)
I haven't been in that nuthouse for a few years now, and even then only a few times did I stick my toe into that mess...
Mike from Antigo.
I once alerted you to the red Monte Carlo with the tinted windows and flame decals that hangs around here with the radar gun...

I bet they are crawling out of the woodwork with an upcoming election.

back to radios - what scanner did you use before, and what are you looking at now?
I have a Uniden BCD996T hooked to a Scantenna out back and hear everything from Waupaca to Iron Mountain to Chippewa Falls(randomly).

I have a couple of old portable Radio Shack scanners, one a Pro 50 and I think the other is an 82. With everything going digital up here I know I need to get something new. Just not sure what kind and any extras that it might need, i.e., antenna etc. My favorite listening is Vilas County with some Oneida. A guy on the road crew where I work said he has some kind of two way radio that he got over the internet from Pennsylvania and said it was much cheaper than the newer digital scanners. All of this has gotten over my head and I just hope to find something that works for up here.

Thank you for the nice welcome. Yes, I learned about this site from a relative and find it fascinating. I'll be looking in to a P-25 type of scanner so I can hear what's going on here in Portage County sometimes.

My favorite thing to scan is police/fire frequencies, some public safety too.

I own a Realistic (Radio Shack?) brand PRO-2006, and a Radio Shack DX-398 shortwave radio. I like finding military comms on that one.

After an approximate 15-year absence from my scanning hobby, I'm back into it, and mulling over buying some new toys. I'm also finding new frequencies in my area that I'm adding.

Mainly listen to Police/Fire/EMS (when I am not playing any of the roles)

Own a couple of different radio's and for a scanner have a Pro-2056 which I am looking to get a handheld digital scanner as we are moving towards that over here.

Still try to stay active with ham radio but sometimes it has to take a back burner due to my work (night shift) and other family/work activities. Like to play on the board here at work as it is one of the very few sites that is not websense at any of my work locations.

I'm in Milwaukee County. Not too active at Amateur Radio at this point, but renewed interest in scanning.

I work in SE Wisconsin as a technician for a communications shop that does most of the comms for Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties (as well as Lake in IL)

Use a VHF XTS5000 at work to monitor various VHF customers / local / state PD, and a Kenwood TK-3180 for my employer's various LTR systems.
