Unfortunately, Brevard County encrypted all public safety on their new system also. You still have the airport, railroads, amateur radio repeaters, and all of the other conventional analog and P25 frequencies. You will not be able to receive any of the unencrypted talkgroups on the Volusia County system which are all P25 Phase 2 and your scanner is capable of P25 Phase 1 only.
Thanks for responding.

Yes, I'm aware that my scanner won't receive P25 Phase 2. My concern is that it's finding virtually nothing in full spectrum scan mode. When the Phase 1 channels disappeared, I still had chatter from the Daytona Beach airport and a couple of marine transmissions. I deleted those and decided to see what the spectrum scan would pick up.

Yes, FUNC + SCAN is correct for the Spectrum Sweeper.

Have you tried monitoring 155.34 MHz? That shows up as a Volusia Co. fire simulcast conventional freq... although it's a popular interop freq, so there might be lots of static without a tone, and the database doesn't show one.

I'm surprised you're not getting more with the spectrum sweeper, though... what are you using for an antenna?

Yes, 155.34 MHz is the one frequency that spectrum scanning found to be active and transmitting clearly. There are similar analog channels in nearby towns, but I know that fire department dispatching is not likely to be heard frequently.

I've always used a tri-band Larsen NMO150-450-800 magnetic trunk mount antenna.

Well, it sounds like you're doing everything right. And I use that antenna for all my mobile scanners, so you've got good taste in antennas!

My only other suggestion would be to go ahead and try the few other things that @tvengr and I suggested as far as FRS/GMRS/MURS, Amateur repeaters, and railroads... I know that in WV, when it's "road mending season," the traffic flaggers are often on FRS or MURS--that can be strange and interesting listening.

It can also be interesting around Christmas when kids get FRS radios for presents. It used to be the same way years ago, but the kids were getting CB or 49 MHz portables.

I just noticed they have also encrypted talk groups 1084 and 1085 on the Brevard P25 system. The reasoning behind doing this boggles the mind. They used to be in the clear not too long ago. They're patches to analog marine VHF frequencies that anyone can hear on various different kinds of radio equipment, and have no relevance to CJIS or FBI requirements that I'm aware of... It was actually fun to follow the NSF Space Coast Live YouTube channel and monitor marine VHF on the patch channels using the P25 system.

I've found that whatever mode I select, there's no longer anywhere near enough activity in this area to warrant keeping the scanner in my vehicle. I'm going to move it back to my desk.
