If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Have a Wouxun KG-UVD-1P hand-held. Without programming on my PC, what is the procedure in changing the Receive and Transmit PL using the radio keyboard? Can't locate the user manual. Thanks for the help

You program in your desired rx frequency and then go to menu and change to the offset option. Enter 05.0000 for 5 khz offset for example. I don't have one right in front of me but when I get home I can post it exactly.

I was looking to change the transmit and receive PL not the offset. The manual is not well written, I'd appreciate the simple solution when you find the "quick guide". TNX and 73 de KC2PBJ

I only have a UV6D at the house but it should be the same:

When you are at the frequency you want to set a CTCSS or DPL on:

To set receive:

1) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select R-CTC (for CTCSS) or R-DCS (for DPL).
2) Press Menu again to edit the value
3) Use the channel knob to select the value you want
4) Press Menu again to save the value

To set transmit:

1) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select T-CTC (for CTCSS) or T-DCS (for DPL).
2) Press Menu again to edit the value
3) Use the channel knob to select the value you want
4) Press Menu again to save the value

If you do not want to set an offset and just enter receive and transmit directly you can do the following:

1) In VFO mode enter your receive frequency (i.e. 155.595 - I just made these numbers up)
2) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select MEM-CH
3) Press Menu again to edit the value
4) Use the channel knob to select the value you want
5) Press Menu again to save the value and it should say "receiving memory"
6) Enter your transmit frequency (i.e. 160.595 - I just made these numbers up)
2) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select MEM-CH
3) Press Menu again to edit the value
4) DO NOT change the value--keep it at the frequency that you had for the receive value
5) Press Menu again to save the value and it should say "transmit memory"

If you want to save a simplex frequency you do the following:

1) In VFO mode enter your frequency
2) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select MEM-CH
3) Press Menu again to edit the value
4) Use the channel knob to select the value you want
5) Press Menu again to save the value and it should say "receiving memory"
3) Press Menu again to edit the value AGAIN
4) DO NOT change the value--keep it at the frequency that you had for the receive value
5) Press Menu again to save the value and it should say "transmit memory"

You can then name the channel:

1) Switch to channel mode
2) Press Menu and use the channel knob to select CHNAME
3) Press Menu again to edit the value
4) Use the channel knob to select the value you want:
-- Clockwise selects the alpha-numeric value
-- Counter-clockwise moves you to the next character space
5) Press Menu again to save the name

This is the sort of detail that should probably be put into the wiki - I'm willing to bet others have / have had the same question...Mike

Thank you! That was a big help. The manual isn't worth a damn. Probably translated from Chinese by a Bulgarian who once ate at McDonalds while on vacation in Somalia..

I made another post about the 6D. I will look into adding it to the WiKi too.

It is funny because I thought it was hard to program at first but then once I wrote it down it was only then that I saw how easy it was.
