I bought a WS1040 for my dad for Christmas. I can pick up frequencies from surrounding areas, but I cannot get our city's PD to come through. I looked at the channel on radioreference and when I set it on the radio, nothing happens.

I'm in Garfield Heights, OH 44125. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You might get better results posting in the Ohio forum, but here's a suggestion.

If I look at the RR page for Cuyahoga County OH and scroll down to Garfield Heights, I see that the Garfield Heights police department is using the "Greater Cleveland Radio Communication Network" P25 system. Do you have that programmed into the scanner? As long as they are only using P25 Phase 1, the 1040 should be able to pick that system up.

I'm not sure how to program the P25 Phase 1 system into the scanner.

Are you programming it manually? If so, then I'm sorry but I won't be able to help you, although there are some here that do it that way.

I would look into one of the programming packages that work with that scanner. Check out this page:

Object Oriented Scanner Software - The RadioReference Wiki

Personally I use ARC500 to program my PRO-651, which is the Radio Shack version of the 1040. Lots of other folks prefer WIN500. I believe they both have free trials, so I would download them and pick the one you like. If you want to download directly from the RadioReference DB you'll need to be a premium RR subscriber (something I would also very much recommend).

Good luck!

FYI: With WIN500 you can download the GCRCN (Cleveland P25 system) from the Radio Reference Database. Once it's downloaded into WIN500, you can upload it to your scanner.

I've found WIN500 to be a very straight forward product that is easy to use and understand. If you have additional questions regarding the GCRCN P25 system, MARCS-IP or other local (North East Ohio) systems the Ohio Forum is the place to look for help.
