I just purchased a WS1040 Scanner. I am attempting to add frequencies. I have tried with psredit and manually. It shows that it is taking the upload from psredit. It completes and reboots but will not change anything. When entering it manually, the save button is clicked and it shows that it saved. Nothing has changed. I have also attempted every reset in the manual and it does nothing.

Did you install the driver for the cable? If the cable is plugged into the computer, the software will show data being transferred whether a scanner is connected or not. Look at the scanner display while uploading to the scanner. It should show the percentage of the file transferred. If your cable has a mono adapter on the end, remove it. The WS1040 requires a TRS stereo plug. Make sure you are plugged into the PC/IF jack and not the headphone jack.

Are the scan list numbers showing on the scanner? If not, you need to press the scan list numbers on the keypad to enable them. If you are doing a download from the RR database, usually everything is in scan list 1. Press 1 on the keypad to toggle the scan list on and off. If programming manually, a scan list must be assigned for each frequency and talkgroup.

The numbers show that it is being uploaded to the scanner on the scanner. I’m not sure what a mono adapter is. It is a cord that goes from the scanner end to the USB end with a box looking thing in the middle. And yes, drivers were installed. It is communicating, but the scanner will not save anything. Even when I do it on the scanner. And yes they are. I tried to delete old frequencies and wipe the scanner, but nothing will delete or change at all

The mono adapter was used with some of the older scanners such as the Radio Shack Pro-96 and Pro-2096. It will either be a short pigtail at the scanner end of the cable or an adapter at the very end. Try resetting the scanner. This should erase all of the frequencies in addition to resetting the scanner. Turn the scanner off. Turn the scanner on. At the welcome screen, press 0 and then press 1. As an alternate, pressing 0 and then 2 will reset the scanner without erasing the memory. You can also try removing the battery for a long period of time.

I tried that and nothing changed. I tried 0, 5, Ent and it said something along the lines of EEPROM error. And cycle power now.

Everything like normal. It shows it uploading to 100% and then reboots like it should but nothing changes

Make sure you have the scanlists enabled into which the objects you programmed are located.

If no scan lists are enabled, you will get the message Nothing enabled! Press the scan list numbers on the keypad to enable them. I am concerned If it says EEPROM Error. When the scanner reboots, it should say EEPROM Changed. I want to see if you are possibly exceeding the memory capacity of the scanner. On the scanner Press PGM. and GLOB (F3). Scroll down to Memory Info. Press SEL. How much Free Space does the display show? Press Done (F1), Exit (F2), and SCAN. What is your city, county, and state, and which agencies would you like to monitor?

To verify whether the scanner has actually accepted the programming changes, download from the 1040 into a newly created blank PSREdit file. Then compare the downloaded file with the file you used to upload to the scanner. Theoretically, they should be the same if the 1040 accepted the programming.

TVEngr the OP is using PSREdit500. All he has to do is click on Information on the PSREdit Toobar and view Memory Usage. PSREdit will not allow you to load more objects than the 1852 object limit.
