I downloaded the WS1080 software from the whistler group website and I am able to program my clock, program all my frequencies and systems with no issues but I have this problem:
When I try to check for new updates it gives me an error screen "port needed" then freezes up the program which makes no sense because I can program the scanner. My TRX-1 software has no problems checking for updates only the WS 1080. I deleted and re-launched the software several times but it
doesn't fix the problem.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thank You

Depending upon the os that you're using, I would try to run the software as an administrator. That usually does the trick for me. Also, I usually run the Whistler software on Windows 7.

I ran as an administrator but still wouldn't work. I don't have anything with windows 7 anymore but my computer
which is running windows 10 works perfect with software for TRX-1, and Pro-668 only WS 1080 won't work I don't know why

I tried to duplicate the problem on my Windows 10 machine. I originally installed version .647 and it worked fine. I ran the check for upgrades. It upgraded the library and the app to .669, and also worked fine.

When you uninstalled the app, did you check to see if the installation directories were removed, and if not, did you physically remove the installation directories?
They are found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Whistler\WS1080\

I had a problem before when trying to do upgrades where I was getting a weird error message, and after I physically deleted the directories and reinstalled the app, it worked fine. The error message was different, though.

I couldn't find any directories located in the Users\yourusername\AppData\ directories.

I did find the app data located in Users\yourusername\Documents\WS1080 Digital\

That directory contains all of your cdat information. If you delete it, you will lose your configuration information stored on the computer, so I would rename the \WS1080 Digital\ directory, rather than delete it. You will not lose it on your scanner.

Just remember, nothing's impossible, the impossible just takes a little longer. Or as my brother always says, The first hundred years are the hardest.

Good Luck
Rich

I have not experienced any problems and have not been able to duplicate the issue or previously saw the problem, hence I have kept my mouth shout. You aren't being ignored, it is just an issue we are not fimiliar with. Hopefully @rgchristy suggestions help. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Just off chance here, as a WAG - are you using the OEM cable that comes with the 1080? Or are you trying to use the TRX-1 cable on your 1080? Granted this should work (at least it says so on the Whistler website), but your description leaves that detail out.

This smells like a cable issue. Something in that cable the TRX1 can handle that the 1080 can't. And they are easy to replace...Mike

[edit] A driver issue, maybe?

I called Whistler Group yesterday and they advised me to do exactly what Rich told me to do this morning.
I didn't physically remove the program directories and that gave me the weird error message
Everything is working fine now.
Thank you to all that helped me.
