Why is it all commercial stations West of the Mississippi River begin with K, yet all weather radars in the Contiguous US begin with K regardless of their geographic location.
Because "K" is the designator for US in WMO standards. All products, whether from a NWS radar, NWS office, NWS HQ, etc. that come from the NWS start with K.
