To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

XG-100P Select Channel/Group menu

I've been working on a couple mission plans for my XG-100P that I bought recently and came across something that I can't quite figure out. I understand that the ABC switch when programmed to the Channel Bank selection will toggle between banks of channels in the same system or zone (1-16, 17-32, 33-48). However, my preference on radios with an ABC switch is to use it as a low power/high power/xxxx switch so that I can change power easily without going through a menu. The shortcut menu has an option of Sel Chan/Grp that can be programmed and I had thought this would do the same function. But for some reason when I select that menu option I only get one selection of channels 1-16 no matter how many channels are in the system or zone. Is that not the function of that menu? Or is there some nuance of the programming or radio that I am missing?

Try setting the A, B, C switch to Systems or Zones. I personally always found the Select CHAN/GRP functionality to be a bit odd in behaviour, depending on how the A, B, C switch is set-up. The A, B, C switch can't be assigned to Tx power settings on the XG-100P.

The ABC switch absolutely can be assigned to Tx power. That's how I currently have it set up and it works fine. I've also tried it as a bank switch, which also works, I just prefer it to switch my Tx power. I'm just trying to figure out how to change between groups of 16 channels from the menu. If it's even possible. At the end of the day it's probably not a big deal, I only have two zones with more than 16 channels.

It’s been awhile since I programmed a 100P, but I’m pretty sure you can get a channel entry screen, or scroll through a system/zone to the desired channel. I definitely don’t remember another way to bank other than to assign A/B/C (all of them), to bank. The help menu is very comprehensive though, so thoroughly searching and reading may glean some way. You could also split the system into two zones of less than 16, but that may not work for you if you need to scan the entire zone at once…

I may just have to split the zones into two groups. Not a big deal, just seems odd that there is a menu item that, at least at first glance, sounds like it should do roughly the same thing. Or maybe this radio will be the odd man out in terms of how the controls are set up.
