• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all, I have a new to me XPR6550 that I've successfully programmed and so far it is doing what I want it to do.

I was updating the firmware in a virtual machine running Win7 to the last firmware version. During the update the usb passthrough from the host machine to the virtual machine client dropped. I "re-connected" the usb passthrough but CPS complained and the process stopped. However at that exact moment, or just before, the radio booted into the new firmware and there seemed to be no issues. The progress bar when this happened was somewhere around 68% or thereabouts.

After that I used CPS 1 V16 in Windows 10 and read the radio, edited the code plug and wrote it to the radio. Many times in fact. It all seems to be working just fine. However, after the firmware upgrade the power on time is long. I never timed it before the upgrade, but it seems to be about twice as long. So from the time I turn the knob on to the time I first see activity (green LED, screen backlight comes on etc) is 5 full seconds. Is this normal?

I checked to see if I could re-flash the firmware (in Windows 10 vice the virtual machine) and it said the firmware didn't need updating.

Cheers,
Doug

What firmware revision? My 6550 with S01.17.08 takes a full 5-6 seconds to boot up.

Okay. Seems normal then (it is S01.17.08). I was just worried because of the usb interruption that happened. Thanks.

I can also attest to long load times. Every TRBO radio I've owned or used has taken quite a few seconds to fully start up

Its the tubes inside that need warming up before the radio is ready for use ;-)
Remember in the 60s when TVs seemingly took forever to show the picture?
Seems we have come full circle with technology and for a while now are back to the same situation of waiting before start using.
