• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a XTL-5000 that I am looking to send in to get tune and aligned. In another thread Sunny Communications was suggested. They seem to be severely lacking in the communications part. Been trying to find out turn around time, return shipping cost, and have never heard back after the initial reply to my email a month prior. I am not comfortable sending my radio in and having it go into a black hole. Recent reviews aren't comforting either. SO with that being said, are their any other shops that can be recommended? I reached out to the two shops my department uses and they no longer have the equipment needed. This is a department radio as well. But since it still works we don't want to replace it if we don't have to. Small department even smaller budget.

I'm not sure what the problem you experienced, they will answer the phone and if I recall, they charge $25 for a tune and align, not including shipping. I'm sure if they'll tune or charge more for 800 MGz radio.

I was finally able to get a hold of someone at their shop. I did have to call back because they hung up on me but oh well. The radio is VHF so they told me it should take less than an hour to tune and be $25. So I'll be sending it tomorrow. Said it would be about 3 weeks to get it back to me at the latest. Fingers crossed.

Do you not have a local Motorola dealer? All of them should have that capability, and it would reduce your downtime

A lot of the Motorola Dealers won't touch the XTS/XTL model radios for various reasons, too old and discontinued model, parts no longer available, the Depot will no longer touch them, and no longer can get technical support. Also, not all of them will service that particular series radio.
