Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

A question for the Motorola pro's out there. I have a XTL5000 currently being used with an O3 control head. I can't easily access the rear port for programming any longer the way the radio is setup. I am wondering what (if there is) the preferred option is.

I have the old O5 head with HLN6912A and could run the HKN6169B (blue cable) to it and program through the front port with my regular programming cable I use for my other XTL2500/XTL5000 radios.

OR

Would something like this cable I found work through the parallel port on the TIB? For Motorola XTL5000 XTL2500 APX7500 DB9 COM Programming Cable 9 Holes to 25 Pin | eBay. I haven't found much information on this method or a Motorola equivalent part number.

From what I can find, I'm spending $45-60 either way, just wondering if there is a better method.

Thanks for all any input.

If you use an O3 with an XTL, you can't use a USB anything. You'll need a serial GCAI programming cable HKN6183 will work.

Edit: I'm dumb, I understand what you're saying, go through the TIB GCAI directly. I seriously don't know why I didn't consider that. Thank you.

This cable finally arrived, however when I connect it, "radio failed to acknowledge" using COM1 as my port. I've used that COM port to program other radios, including this one, but with via the rear accessory port.

Edit: I can read another XTL5000 with an O5 head through it's GCAI so the cable appears to be in good working order., TIB P/N is PMLN5038A.
