To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Having an issue with an control head change.
Originally had an XTL5000 with O5 head. Worked great but i wanted to switch out for one of the W4 heads so i could sell it to a friend. Purchased the correct Tib, Chib, and flex. I ended up creating a brand new codeplug and reflashed the radio just to make things easier. When the radio is powered on, the control head comes up with the correct display, however the XMIT button stays lit up red and will not let me transmit.
I have checked to ensure that the radio has "secure equipped" not checked
Is there anything else i should be looking at?

Do you have the emergency jumper in J2? if you change the head back to the O5 with the correct setting in the codeplug, does the radio behave normally?

Sorry i forgot to Mention these are in a remote configuration so nothing is plugged in to the J2 connector. I haven't changed back to an O5 head just yet, i was considering that a last resort

I always jump out the emergency pins on all my installations. I just gave 2 seconds worth of seaching thru the BSM and installation docs I had, and it suggests connecting (or jumping out) the emergency button/MDC activation line - but it doesnt seem to explicitly state it needs one. It's been far too long for me to remember if the silent emergency displays "EMERGENCY" on the screen when it's tripped or not. Is silent emergency enabled in the codeplug?

When i had the O5 head connected i didnt jump it and it worked fine but who knows that could very well be the issue I did check and silent emergency is not on. Its strange that i can change the channels, zones, and all but it looks like it is constantly trying to transmit

Does this constant XMIT light continue if the W4 is on another body? I'd jump it out first, then swap it to another XTL (if avail) to see if the problem follows the radio, the head, or the codeplug

In the remote head configuration for an O5 head, the rear accessory connector is not used, therefore it isn’t necessary to jump those two pins.

I tried switching it to another radio and it caused the same issue. I am definitely under the belief that it is the heads that are the problem. Unfortunately I am at a loss as to where to go from here

I read through the installation manual and it says that when in remote configuration for the W4,W5,W7, and W9 the emergency jumper moves to the control head
