• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

3 ways:

Power it up and press the lowest button (just above the ptt) on the side 5 times.

Read it with RSS.

Check the sticker on the back.

Thanks for the lightspeed reply!....

I got it now......

Now for the BIG question......I've got plenty of other radios (XTN 2100's UHF & VHF, Distance GMRS, and many other GMRS/FRS combos)....I just picked up a BC246T to fiddle around with....

What good is this new XTS 3000 going to do for me?...I'm just a casual user (hunting, hiking, camping, etc...) and use my radios for only the basic family communications....

I wanted the XTS 3000 for it's robust build and quality.....and got it with very little prior knowledge of it's capabilities.....

I assumed I could program it to talk on FRS freqs, but now realize I'm in over my head with this one...

What are your suggestions for using this radio?.....

Thanks in advance!

What is the model number? If it isn't a UHF model, you can't use it on GMRS. If it isn't in the right bandsplit, you won't be able to program it to the right band.

Hey, thanks for you info and response.....

I found all the info on these radios via another thread I posted......

Up to a point, I discovered they aren't currently programmed with alot of features, but I am now aware of what they sell for on Ebay and other sources....

95 percent of the members provided outstanding info and advice on what I should do with these.....

Although, one member, 10-95 accused me of being a TROLL and destroyed the other thread....

No worries though, since I picked up several good sources via PM that have helped me research these radios and decide their fate.....

10-95 acted like a kid from the start, offering ZERO advice on these radios....

I'm gonna request that other thread be deleted to save others from having to read 10-95's BS.....

Thanks man, I appreciate your help!...
