• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does a usb cable exist ? I have the combo Serial /usb cable but i think its bad...

If it's the cable I have, it's not a combo serial/USB cable. The DB-25 connector is for interfacing to the RLN-4460 service interface box.

Ridiculous price on that cable, typical MSI. If this is for hobby use, you're better off buying an aftermarket serial cable + a good USB to serial converter, like the TRENDnet TU-S9. I've been using that setup for years with my XTS 5000 and have never had any issues.

Indeed. That's my work cable. We ran XTS-2500's on our trunked system. No reason for it to cost that much, other than to have the batwing label on the package.
I agree, for hobby use, go with aftermarket, unless you just won the lottery and want to waste a bunch of money.

Thankfully the OEM APX cables are much more reasonably priced. I normally don't publicly recommend aftermarket programming cables, but I've never had any issues with the $30 aftermarket XTS/ASTRO 25 cable from ShopWiscomm, coupled with the TU-S9.

Looks like it's out of stock on their site. You can find similar cables on eBay for pretty cheap, just stick with a seller that has solid feedback and you should be fine.

I and a few friends have tried several aftermarket USB cables for the XTS2500 and the data transfer often fails mid stream and the radio is a brick until you can get a complete download into it. I'm told this is more a problem with modern computers, Windoz 10, etc., and possibly the USB transfer rate is too fast. I now use a $15 serial cable whenever I can and its flawless.

Yeah, I would stay away from aftermarket programming cables that have a USB connector on them. Better to go with the aftermarket serial cable that has the DB9 connector, then use a good quality USB to serial converter with it.

yeah the 4105 is the cable I have, so the usb is for power, not for data transfer....
No, you're misreading what was posted. The RKN4105A is a USB programming cable, however it's not also a serial cable. The DB25 connector is for performing certain service functions using the RLN4460 service interface box.

Last I seen on windows 10 after the last endless updates the cps will crash, eventually the radio will reboot as if it was being read with a huge codeplug with serial to USB including the old guc232a

You guys must be really unlucky if you're having that much trouble with Windows 10. I've been running Win 10 Pro x64 since it was first released in mid-2015, always update to the semi-annual releases, and apply all the latest cumulative updates. Never once had any issue running ASTRO 25 CPS or using a serial to USB converter with an aftermarket cable to program any ASTRO 25 radio. I've had that thing plugged into USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and USB 3.1 ports, all with the port speed set up to 115,200 bps. Rock solid.

My friend and I having problems are running Windoz 10 Pro 64 with all updates and its not reliable on some radios. We are using some huge code plugs with lots of personalities (240), channels and zones. When I program some of my 2500s with only a few zones and channels it works fine.

Bluemax49er is where you want to get your cables from. Or Valley Enterprise. I use a standard USB to serial cable and then the serial to XTS 1500,2500,5000 cable. Just make sure it's an FTDI USB to Serial cable.

I have two Bluemax49er USB cables here and they both have problems with large code plugs stopping in the middle of a transfer and temporarily bricking the radio. I can take 10 or 20 attempts after that to get the download completed and the radio breathing again. This is on multiple W10 machines.

I’ve never had an issue using Windows 7 32 bit machine and those two cables. And I’ve pushed some pretty large codeplugs through. Some with over 20 systems in it and maxing the channel capacity on an XTS5000.
But then again, I’ve never attempted to use Astro 25 Portable on 10.
