XTS3000 Power Issue

Hello new friends!

I have an XTS3000R that started giving me trouble. It will not power on unless I squeeze the battery and radio together. Tried several different batteries all with the same result. I cleaned the contacts on the radio to make sure all was kosher and still no luck.

At a critical radio level now in my dept so I cant really afford to lose another one. Just need to make these things last another 15 months for the new system to be up and running.

Most likely the contacts on the radio are worn down and need replacement..Its covered in the TSB here http://wiscomm.blogspot.com/2009/03/xts-3000-xts-3500-and-xts-5000.html

The contacts get worn a little. Usually take an eraser and good to go. Most of the xts radio's I have seen this problem with is when a non-Motorola battery was used. They don't fit as tight and move on the contacts causing wear.

We put an OEM battery on it, and was good to go.

The contacts inside the radio could be worn also, and may need re-sprung and cleaned.

Or order the replacement part.

That TSB doesn't mention the other problem which is not dirty contacts, but "degraded contacts". Using off brand loose batteries or removing the battery from a powered-on radio causes micro arcs on the contacts, which in time melts them down to a point where even a factory battery doesn't make positive contact. The only remedy is replacing the 3-position contact riser between the controller and the chassis.

‘DeoxIT®GOLD’ cleaner/lubricant pen or ProGold G5, supplier CAIG Labs, is what we use to clean and preserve the contacts. Also clean and leave a little on the batteries' contacts .
