    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

If you look at the other thread (http://forums.radioreference.com/motorola-forum/212246-top-line-motorola-q.html) you will see that there is a bit of confusion as to what exactly he is trying to listen to.

As far as the original question and problem at hand here, I think the OP maybe should have passed on the cool shiny Motorola radio and simply purchased a digital scanner. One step at a time... learn about what you are trying to listen to and go from there. A good scanner would give you a lot more info about what you are hearing than the Motorola will. Will the XTS sound better? Sure it will, but not until you figure out what you need to program into it.

You haven't even determined if the radio is even functional or if it has the correct antenna so lets try this, enter in for Rx:162.400000, set the Rx Pl: to 0 ( no rx tone).

Since you can't FPP in a blank transmit frequency, unless the radio was already set up for receive only with CPS, so for the time being don't enter anything for the transmit frequency.

Set the Rx Type: to Analog and set the Bandwidth: to 25.0 kHz.

Now see if you can hear San Diego NOAA weather service.

After telling us if you can hear Wx service then we can start all over and try to help you.

Not quite. NAC 293 is the default, or most common NAC code. NAC F7E will decode any NAC code. So if you want to listen to a digital freq, & don't know the NAC code, set the radio to F7E, & your radio will decode the transmission. GARY N4KVE

Thanks, Gary. Of course, you're correct. Brain fart on my part.

Yes I hear the WX channel.

Driving on the Interstate-5 I hear CHP and ALL kinds of channels... so IDK why its just the SDFD channel...

range and coverage is not an issue, because i have the radios 3 feet apart and i get sdfd on the scanner and not on the xts5000

FYI:
I'll be 19 next month, I was the more younger group of my class so i was still 17 when i graduated and attended Miramar EMT Fire Program... I completed my EMT-B certification in Dec. of 2010 and applied for Rural Metro (the ambulance company who contracts WITH SDFD) Ill be 19 on August 30. Wanna see my County EMT cards?

Because you do not have the XTS programmed correctly. You never stated what the LED on the top of the XTS is doing when you have the radio truned to SDFD and you hear their traffic on your scanner. If it is blinking, then at least you're close to getting the programming right. When it's blinking, push the monitor button on the side of the radio. Do you hear their traffic? If you do, then you have the wrong CTCSS or DCS code in the XTS.

That my friend, is also correct. ill put some pics of my county sheriff and ems cards.

EDIT: I work as a deputy sheriff in the COURT system, minimum requirement to be a baliff is 18 years old, as law enforcement (streets patrol) is 21.

Good. If the LED is not lighting/blinking when on the SDFD channel and you're hearing traffic on the scanner, then you have a different frequency programmed in the XTS5000 than you do for the scanner. The XTS5000s LED will blink if you have the right frequency, but the wrong PL/DPL.

What frequency is in the scanner for SDFD?

It sounds to me like you are listening to the TRS on 800 with the scanner and trying to listen on 154.3100 with the XTS5000. If that is what you are trying to, then it is not going to work.

Not according to the San Diego County Court website.
Courtroom Tour

San Diego Court Website said:
WHAT DOES A BAILIFF DO?
A courtroom bailiff is a sworn peace officer and in the courts in San Diego County is a member of the Court Services Bureau of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The bailiff's duties are to:

Provide safety and security for the courtroom, the judge, the staff and those in attendance;

Escort and remain with defendants who are in custody and prevent escapes;

Assist in the administration of court functions as directed by the judge and the clerk;

The bailiff is also tasked with serving, enforcing, and holding all court orders including arrest warrants and civil process.

HOW DOES SOMEONE BECOME A BAILIFF?

A bailiff in the courts in San Diego County is a sworn peace officer. To become a bailiff, a person must first submit an application to the County Personnel section.

To become a bailiff, one must:

Be at least 21 years old;
Be a United States citizen;
Meet the physical requirements for the position;
Pass written and physical agility tests, a psychological examination, polygraph test, and several interviews;
Be subjected to a background investigation;
Successfully complete the required course in a California Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) approved academy.

You don't have to prove anything to me as I know you're lying. Scan all of the copies of fake IDs and certificates that you want.

Ok, so we have an EMT/deputy Sheriff Bailiff that is only 19? Rescue blew holes in that one, so we can probably file this one away in the whacker folder and move on.

OP, if you don't at least have some basic understanding of how the FPP features work in your cool new radio, perhaps you should stick to the scanners. Provided your FPP zone(s) are set up correctly, there is no reason you can't make it work with the help provided in this thread.

He says that he is only 18 and won't be 19 until 30 Aug 2011.

I'd also imagine that impersonating a sworn peace officer on a public forum would also be grounds for them to never hire him as a government employee if he ever decides to go that route.

Paulabdou, I realize that you're young and trying to make a name for yourself, but you have to realize that this is the internet and what you say can come back to haunt you later on in life. You don't have to prove anything to anyone, just be yourself and people will respect you more for that.

I helped him and will continue to help him get his radio working. He just needs to be careful about what he types in a public forum.

Wow... Thread has de-railed.

To the OP, may I suggest acquiring the f...ing manual from Motorola and reading it?

Programming your xts fpp radio has zero to do with your age or job. Try staying on topic next time, whacker or not.

Your master site
Time for an interventon...

Let's drop the whole job thing; this goes for you paulabdou too (so I don't see a delete request because you divulged the wrong info). If some of you don't believe him then ignore him and move on. For those trying to help, I admire your patience. And please, stop with the whacker BS. It may make you feel better to say it but it's childish, so drop it.

SDFD on 154.310 is analog only. Do not program the freq as mixed. I do not care what anyone says, there is no digital voice used on that channel (which defeats the purpose of why 154.310 still exists).

I think some of the guys are just trying to err on the side of caution when someone has a portable in which they have programed a tx frequency for an agency that they do not work for and then is asking for help to "make the radio work". We all know the horror stories of wanna be's obtaining two way radios and doing stupid stuff. Unfortuanetly a lot of the frequency, pl and INPUT frequency data comes from this web site.I applaud those that are careful when it comes to programming assistance for radios that have the ability to TRANSMIT. The scanners of today have the ability for multible frequency bands and modes as well as keyboard programming vs RSS, not to mention the HUGE cost savings. I did not even mention that a fair number of the two ways are obtained by . . . . well you know where I am going with that.

Keep monitoring and scan responsibly

I can't speak to the 5000, but the manuals that come with the 2500 mobiles and portables are very generic and really do not cover much detail. More like what features you could put into the radio. I guess there is a CD included too but I have never tried opening that. We don't even hand them out with the radios, and use on hands training to cover it.

Yes rescue, I had went in and looked up our frequencies, but since its my personal radio the radio tech wont program it unless i pay a moderate fee...

being only 18 i have ALOT to learn about radios, and i had misinterpreted something out of my field manual.

Just FYI everyone this kid started a thread before (listed above please go read) about getting a radio programmed because he worked for San Diego Fire Department

I would watch giving him any info as he says he is 18 and its getting very fishy as why he wants this radio to work.

I attached all his posts about San Diego Fire to an E-mail to them so they could protect themselves and investigate.
