• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

heres what I can say, program the **** you need, and have FPP enabled so IF you need to edit a perimeter you can, for ex, your hiking with a group of whackers, they have there apx8000 and they say to use 167.855. you dont have that !!! good think you have either A a backpack with a laptop and cables, or B FPP, then you goto your 2-3 FPP zones preconfigured and edit it. I own 1 apx with FPP and i will say it is **** compared to XTS because you CANT! i mean cant add channels, but in astro CPS you get 10000 personalities, apx is far deferent and you can have every other zone have fpp or not, and you dont need 10000 personalities. if you wanna see apx fpp theres videos, maybe ill send some pics in a minute
after reviewing this, i think i had a ****ing stroke. im so re arded so please just act like i never said this lol

Once that 30 minutes has expired, it will always be there...for all time.

[edit - ohhhhh, that makes sense, now]

While I don't usually carry a laptop around, if I travel, I do bring a laptop and my cables for what ever radio I'm bringing with me. I use to travel quite extensively, if I had enough notice, and I was going somewhere new, I would research and preprogram my mobile and portable. I'd still take my laptop and cables incase I needed to add anything I missed.

I don't travel as much any more, but still, I've never missed having FPP capability in my radios.

FPP is nice to have but at the same time I don't like the restrictions imposed by having FPP enabled on an Astro25 radio. It's a real pain to import any data from a non-FPP codeplug, you're forced to have 16 channels per zone and 16 personalities with that, FPP zones need to be consecutive, and it's hard to rearrange things within a zone, plus you can't make an imported non-FPP zone to have FPP. I have an XTS4000 (5000 shoved in a Nextel x RAZR case with an O3 display and 2 watts) and the FPP on that is absolutely horrendous. Everything is in cycles. It is really half baked. I ended up dropping it for trunking.

I would love to have FPP that would allow you to do just that without parameter restrictions on everything else, but that's not how it works. I end up bringing my laptop with me if I travel to program anything I might have missed or transposed.
