• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Seeing the used XTX5000 & 3500s flooding the market, I thought it would be a decent idea to buy one to try P25 on amateur radio. I know the radio is EOL, but for the right price, its worth the messing around with....

Anyways, I have figured out where to get a cable, but its the software that has me stumped. I bought the Mototrbo CPS from Motorola. I went into the resource center and don't see any software under Astro 25 portables. I go into myview, I do have Astro CPS, but it is only the current R26.00.00 with no older versions. I also can't find in the documentation if the XTS is supported, but it lists all the APX radios.

I've read through what I can, including batlabs. I've determined I probably won't be able to get ahold of RSS, let alone run it, but maybe an older version of CPS will work?

Can someone point me in the right direction? I'd have no problem if I had to buy from Motorola, but based on my last conversation about older Mototrbo firmware, their opinion is call your dealer and buy a new supported radio.

You are looking for Astro 25 Portable. It’s available through Motorola. You need to set up an account with Motorola Online. Once your account is set up you can call them and they will give you access to purchase it.

I have a current MOL account. Do you have a part number for the CPS? Version?

A VHF XTS5000 with FPP option is a fantastic 2 meter portable radio. While not exactly TINY...it's a great piece of equipment.

Same goes for a UHF version if there's enough 70cm activity to be worth the effort.

Breaking news...a radio that was released 22 years ago makes a great ham portable!

If you're buying one for 440 ham, make sure it's a UHF R1 model (H18QDF9PW6AN). The UHF R2 won't go much further below 443 (if you're lucky) without the VCO unlocking, and of course requires the CPS to be hex edited to accept OOB frequencies to begin with.
