• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is that flex actually supposed to conduct current, or could it simply be some sort of insulating shield to
protect what it's wrapped around from being shorted out?

Looks more like the latter to me.

Hi what do you mean by stunned ?

He means that dispatch, or radio techs, or somebody similar remotely killed it. That would happen if you programmed the radio onto a trunked network that you are not supposed to have access to, or a channel that your not supposed to be transmitting and receiving on. I don't think stunning it wouldn't physically damage it though. Its probably just that ribbon cable.

What they mean is:

Did you steal the radio?

That's not what they mean at all. There are means of programming a radio you purchased, be it from ebay or elsewhere, and having it programmed for a trunked system. Don't go trying to start stuff. People are simply trouble shooting and someone having a radio illegally on the system is obviously a very viable option.

Without knowing what was programmed in it and seeing the physical damage to the flex.It would be safe to assume that its a damage issue. I looked at my extra case and it looks like if that flex was broken that it would have something to do with the top controls.

Now if he says it was programmed on a p25 800mhz trunked system and one day it stopped working without any damage.. Then as KS4VT would know... Sometimes things happen for a reason..

Settle down, Colby, you're the one getting all-worked up & trying to start a playground fight during recess, not me.

If "someone having a radio illegally on the system" is a very viable option, so is the radio being stunned because it was stolen!

Guys - lets just forget about radio inhibits OK? the top pic clearly shows mechanical damage to the flex, and I've seen scores of ASTRO Sabers, and XTS's that wouldn't power on because the flex was damaged.

We have ZERO proof that the radio was on any illegal system, and no reason to assume it ever was. Innocent until proven guilty, so leave the guy alone.

What we do have is clear evidence of a damaged flex. Logically, we should be pursuing that as the probable cause of the radio not working - rather imaging that he's committed some crime that you have no proof of, and no reason to think that anyway.

Well if he was a bit more complete with his original post like adding "I just bought this case from ebay and it doesn't work", then the inhibit comments wouldn't of happened.

I have bought from panter as well and a while back i got a VHF 5000 from him, and the display would invert randomly. Contacted him and he sent out a replacement LCD. He did give me the option to send it back but i have done the work before. Sure enough fixed the issue. He stands behind his stuff.

As for the original poster, i would recomend poping on another case and seeing if that does in fact fix it.
