I have a Ft-400XDR mounted in my truck and I have a problem with APRS. When its warm out and the sun is shining with the windows up the APRS does not work. The head is not mounted in the sun light. The radio will beacon and key the radio but no packet sound will come out. I check and it gets GPS signal and like I said no packet audio will come out but does key the radio. I tried resetting the radio and no good. Had this problem before so I re programmed the radio and it worked good for a year. So I tried that again but still does it so must been a fluke. This only happens when its warm other wise it works fine. Anyone else had this problem or know what is causing it? Thanks.

That radio can get too hot, so Yaesu came out with a fan around $70. If you're running 50W, I would avoid that and try 5W or 20W as well as ensure it is not sending a beacon too often. I use $15 USB fans at home and in the vehicle if I am talking too much a lot. There's an on/off switch if your power does not cut off with the ignition.

This happens when the radio has been off all day

The Yaesu SMB-201 cooling fan is really unsuitable for mobile use. It's bulky, which limits installation options and it runs off a wall-wart adapter that requires 100-120VAC input and gives an output of 10.5VDC at 1A. Running it on automotive 12V (which can run as high as 14.5V alternator output when the engine is running ) is liable to burn it out in short order.
