The 11 pin one is the correct one. I would ohm it out to make sure that it is just shorted on pins 1 and 2. Even if it is incorrect, at least it has the right number of pins and can be converted. The 8 pin one is correct for the external VFO.
As for selling it without the plug, mine did not come with one and that was in the 70s from Burstein Applebee. It did come with a wire tinned and poked into holes 1 and 2.

Thanks again Craig. I'm sure Gerald will see this posting too.

I've used this radio many times since 1974 but have personally never owned one. Now that I am disabled with a terminal illness and huge medical bills, I'll never be able to afford one. My 93 year old father said if I could find one for $100 delivered to my house, he would buy me one. Of course shipping would be about $75 so finding a FT-101E that was even "dead" for $25 would be an impossibility. LOL!

Oh well, I've enjoyed helping Gerald out and you were instrumental too with the 11-pin connector that was missing since I did not know about that. Thanks again!

I'll be really pleased when Gerald posts that all bands are working using his 300-watt dummy load.

Hi Dave,

No I did not have the plug so I shorted pin 1-2. I was able to get a plug from a fellow on Kiji.

Feel a lot better now without having a loose wire falling out. I have tuned all the bands with the dummy load. Everything appears to function as should. The only band that I received no results was
11 meters and as I mentioned previously after opening up the radio and referring to the manual
the 11 meter crystal was missing. Found one on EBay $30.00 + $9.00 shipping. I received it in the mail
yesterday. I installed it and 11 meters works. One thing I noticed when I am receiving , the sound quality is extremely on the base side. Anything I might have over looked!?
Not sure what the time signals are !!!! I have the radio hooked up to an mfj antenna tuner.
I will be getting a Kenwood 440 St/At from the same fellow I got the plug from.
The radio is in very nice condition and I have seen it work. No tubes or retuning.
The radio has a built in antenna tuner. This should make life a little easier. He wants
$225.00 for the radio. I will be shelving the Yaesu. I still have a dreaded feeling that I will blow it
when I am receiving with it even without the power switch on.
I am not having any luck finding Dacron rope to guy my tower. I was watching it the other day
when the wind was howling , sure is amazing how much the mast flexes. I will lower it until I can
guy it in 4 places.

Don't know if that is how they sounded back in 1974 or if it is a function of the internal speaker or your external speaker. Maybe somebody else could help on that question.

Time signals are just that; they are highly accurate time clocks that speak the time every minute. Try the Canadian frequencies that I cited if you cannot receive WWV (the time standard in Fort Collins, Colorado..

Just Google "Dracon Rope" and you'll find a LOT of suppliers.

Have fun with the Kenwood and let us know if you have any questions on the Kenwood (I am NOT an expert on that brand) and best wishes on passing your Amateur License test this winter. We're here to help you on either but be sure to start a new thread!
