We will be going to Yellowstone in Sept I have my HP2 in my vehicle I suspect I will be able to monitor NPS PR/EMS/Fire when I enable the federal option?

Anyone know
Was there last July on a field seminar and everything I monitored as FM, although the rangers carry Thales/Racal P25 HH.

Depending on what side of the park you are on, monitor the repeater nearest you.

There's an alarm tone they use for park wide broadcasts which keys all repeaters. Dispatch used that when they had a park wide power outage.

I programmed all the frequencies found here:

Radio System - Yellowstone Wiki

and was rewarded with lots of traffic.

I used a P25 flashed XTS5000 FPP which I programmed all channels mixed mode receive and my vehicle Icom ID-880 with the channels in analog.

I did not hear any P25, although that may be used at times.

HP-2 should have no problem.

You can drive up Mt Washburn to a lot and then hike up to the primary radio site, but be in shape and ready for a moderately strenuous hike not for chairborn rangers.

There is a similar thread in the Wyoming forum. I need to make some changes on the Wiki page link that ky5e posted here. The Larmar net has a new repeater located on Druid Peak or mountain. It is located just north of the Mammoth-Cooke City road near the Larmar Valley. The call sign listing needs to be changed as well as some of the districts are actually subdistricts and the distinction can be important when listening to radio traffic.

I wrote much of the Wiki page that was linked and need to keep up with the updates per the new information I have access to. Those interested and/or traveling to this park should look up the "Secret Yellowstone" site. I got most of my information from that site, but also have access to some other information sources as well. This site is maintained by someone who worked in the park as a seasonal protection ranger some years ago. I have a friend who used to work at the north end of this park and lived in a National Park Service home at Mammoth. This site is so complete that I was able to pull up a picture of the house he lived in and having never visited him there, I liked being able to look at a picture of his house.
