I've made a couple inquires but if anyone has details, feel free to share.

Yesterday York EMS changed to different talkgroups. They're no longer using YORK NORTH & YORK SOUTH for calls, instead using TAC 1 through TAC 4. I haven't been able to figure out specific boundaries for each of these channels and calls in the same area seem to be on different channels.

I've heard them give out initial call details on TAC 1 but then the crews were told to switch to one of the other channels for details. I've also heard ambulances clear the hospital and be told to switch back to TAC 1. Will post whatever I find out.

Sounds similar to practices used for a long time here in the west, where primary dispatch is on one channel, and operations are assigned the next available channel, re-used as calls "surrender" the channel back to the free pool.

I wonder if they're using a "3D" model: Dispatch, Deployment, Destination. Meaning, everyone parks on Dispatch when they're available, they get dispatched on that channel, then switch to Deployment where they get call details, then switch to Destination when they're enroute and on scene at the hospital, then switch back to Dispatch when they're clear.

Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara and Oshawa use this type of system.

Calgary would appear to be using the "2D" model in that case - they stay on the second channel throughout the event, not switching to a third channel.

That seems to be what York EMS are doing now. I've heard the initial dispatch on Tac 1, then crews are asked to switch to another Tac channel for further details. They stay on that channel until the call is done. York EMS are dispatched by Georgian ambulance, as are Simcoe EMS, but Simcoe have not made this switch. They are still using Simcoe North and South.

So far I've heard Tac 2 and Tac 3 used for units on calls and everybody else on Tac 1.

Simcoe still seems to be using Tac 5 for hospital patches and I haven't heard Tac 4 used yet.

There doesn't seem to be any geographical reason for choosing Tac 2 or Tac 3. I'm wondering if they're just trying to split the load evenly between dispatchers?

I did hear a unit mention switching to York North but the dispatcher said that York North was for Metro. Not sure what that means but I'm wondering if anybody has noticed York North and York South in service in the Toronto area? Has anybody noticed any less EMS activity on the Toronto system lately? Could Toronto EMS be borrowing York North and York South? I'm way too far north to confirm.

As MikeOxlong said, I think they're splitting the load between dispatchers.

No channels have been given to Toronto EMS. They're using York South and North for hospital patches. Initial call details given out on Tac 1 and then the crew is assigned Tac 2 or 3.

Any idea what Simcoe county is doing? On Tac 1 today all I heard was York region calls, mostly Vaughan, Markham and Richmond hill all starting off on TAC 1 with units being given pre-alert or full details and then being told to head over to Tac 2 or 3 but the dispatchers are still getting used to it and sounded very frustrated. One dispatcher lost track of an ambulance and remarked how this new system is brutal and still getting used to it. Who knows, maybe full calls will be given on Tac 1 as if it was a dispatch channel once they get used to the new ways.

I've heard Follower 2 and Follower 3 which I assume are the old Tactical 2 and Tactical 3.

Also thought I heard York 2 mentioned.

Looks like we both posted at the same time.

Hearing references to York 2 and York 3 which I suspect are just Follower 2 and Follower 3.

Yeah, same with Ottawa. They tried 3D for a while, but there really wasn't a lot of benefit. Now it's more of a 2D, with dispatching on Alpha and deployment on Bravo or Charlie. Specialty units (PRU, Sierra, special events) all remain on Delta.

Looks like Simcoe is now doing the same thing.
All calls formerly on Simcoe North and Simcoe South are on Tactical 5. Patches are on the old channels. I heard one unit sent to Tactical 4 for redeployment.
