There are a lot of different types of York Regional Police units; in my opinion, more than TPS. Here's a bit of a list that I came up with while I was bored waiting for news to break. Any idea what they are (I filled out a couple that I think are right)?

2141 (normal Richmond Hill unit)
PS46 (Vaughan Sargent)
TM43
DUTY1 (the duty inspector?)
514A
Z402 (paid duty?)
D501 (undercover, Criminal Investigations Unit?)
CTS3 (courts?)
Core 400
MHS1 (mental health?)

Check the oraginze chart on the web site at PRP or YRP and you see the branches and try to figger out the call ID .

Some may use radio and other may be just call in by phone like a MCB unit.

TPS has far more than that small list. TAVIS, COR, PDS, ETF, REU, MSS, TSV, FIS, Mounted, Marine, Parking, PSU, VSU, Courts & Wagons, etc., etc.

Off the top of my head, for Toronto:

PRU - Primary Response Unit
ARU - Alternate Response Unit
PDS - Police Dog Services
ETF - Emergency Task Force
PSU - Public Safety Unit
COR - Community Oriented Response
REU - Radio & Electronics Unit
MSS - Mobile Support Services
SIS - Special Investigation Services
TSV - Traffic Services
FIS - Forensic Identification Services
MAR - Marine Unit
MTD - Mounted Unit
PKE - Parking Enforcement
VSU - Video Support Unit
CRT - Court Services
TEU - Training & Education Unit
MCU - Major Crime Unit
YB - Youth Bureau
SAS - Sexual Assault Squad
CIT - Crisis Intervention Team
TAVIS - Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy

There's probably a whole bunch more that I can't think of off the top of my head.

TM43 (Traffic Management, Vaughan)
DUTY1 (the duty inspector?)
514A
Z402 ("Paid Duty")
D501 ("Detective")
CTS3 ("Court Transfer Services" - I think)
COR400 (Community Orientated Response)

More update (from an officer):

The last digit on the unit number represents the time that the unit is working.
Any unit ending in
0,2 is - 6am-6pm,
1,3 is - 7am-7pm,
6,8 is 6pm-6am
5,7 is 7pm-7am.
Any unit ending in A is an "alpha" car which works from 3pm-3am, designed to cover over the gap between day and night shifts and cut down on overtime.

DUT1 is a duty inspector,
CTS is court services,
MHS1 is mental health support
BK is bike
FP is foot patrol
SP is spare
ASU is air support units, the officers in air2 when weather is no good drive around in a car
