WRAY, Colo. -- A small plane crashed near Wray Thursday morning, but authorities were releasing little information.

A reporter with the Wray Gazette newspaper went to the crash location, about 7 miles north of Wray, along Highway 385. She said the plane went down in a field, but authorities wouldn't tell her if anyone was killed.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office said they were still trying to sort things out.

The crash site is about 5 miles north of the Wray Municipal Airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board investigates all fatal airplane crashes and was expected to be called in investigate.

Being reported as a Gulfstream AC-90.

I think that's incorrect. Probably better known as a Beech C-90 King Air. A very common, very good twin turboprop airplane.

YUMA COUNTY - A small-plane on approach to Wray Municipal Airport during weather with poor visibility crashed and burned, killing both people onboard.

National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Peter Knudson says the pilot had been in contact with air traffic controllers seeking direction because of poor visibility. The dual-engine, 11-passenger Gulfstream AC-90 crashed about 7 miles north of the airport about 7:30 a.m.

The Wray Gazette confirmed that the plane crashed north of Wray close to the Bledsoe Feed Lot which is east of Highway 385.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus says the plane went up in flames following the impact.

Firefighters from the Wray Fire Department and the Wauneta Fire Department responded to the crash site between 7 and 8 a.m.

The Wray Gazette says the plane was operated by the J.W. Operating Company.
