Hey all, does anyone know if you can use any sort of sdr/software to pick up Zetron station turnout data? I know the radio freq, and I can hear the voice the dispatcher says, but I was just curious if it's possible to decode the data chunks that get sent out?

More details needed to be sure what you are asking, but SDR# can be used to find a lot of RF signals.....Wireshark is also good for the data portion.

You mention Zetron station turnout, is this a Zetron Fire Station reporting system?

Zetron follows i3 NENA standards for data transmission, if you know what that means, you willl have a lot of information. Just read the standards.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes correct, the Zetron Fire Station system. It is still used here in my region.
I know the frequency they are on, I was just curious about whether the data can be read. The data chuncks that are sent are the job details, as they get printed off on a docket.

Cheers

The Zetron 6/26 Fire Station Alerting system uses an off the shelf MPT1327 modem IC for signaling & data transmission. Data is transmitted at 1200 baud using 1800/1200 Hz MSK.

Cheers, when googling I do remember reading that it was potentially MPT1327 at 1200 baud.

I'm not 100% this tech savvy so still figuring out if it's possible to get the data haha

Has been over a decade now since I have done this, but usually using a T1/E1 interface, or port mirroring on a switch.

Somewhere in my pile of hardware, I have an old Acterna Fireberd 500 T1/E1 internetwork monitor test set (one that looks like an overgrown laptop PC (only way to get a Tb hard drive at one point, sold as test equipment for the telecom industry).

The Fire Station systems I deal with now are all IP based, and the network is locked down hard, so the only way to monitor is to be inside the network at this point.
