What's even worse is they are on Uniden's "where to buy" list...

I think, way back, UPMan said that they randomly included sellers of their scanner. Might show some one today, a different one tomorrow, etc.

Of course, besides Zip, that also shows Frys, which has ceased operations, and Universal Radio, which has shut down their store, but keep the website up to sell off remaining inventory.

Bought mine from zip with no problems, always the same suspects posting links to the same tired years old threads, as if they are alerted if "zip" is posted on this forum and spring into action like Superman. I think most of the "problem" is people wanting instant gratification.
Email isn't answered in 8 hours, oh god they are ignoring me ! Not is stock for 3 days, oh god they are scamming me, wish I would have seen this thread first then I would have bought on trusty old amazon, where no one ever gets delayed or scammed !

It appears to be a business they run when they get bored or run out of stuff to do.

I ordered a guitar 3 months ago, still not here. Metal detector I want hasn't been in stock in months Cat food and ketchup getting hard to find around me too.
Myriad of threads on this forum about weeks and months long wait for customer service from uniden itself, units not available, parts not avilable, service techs not available.
In case you have not noticed this past year or so, there are often supply/staffing/shipping issues that are out of businesses hands.

I ordered parts for my Jeep a month ago. I was told that I am #271 in line for those parts and that FCA / Stellantis has none word from their supplier when those parts may become available.

COVID has made a mess of everything.

Yes, I have noticed but someone should have addressed this issue by now regardless.
Basicly speaking if you don't have it, then tell me you don't have it.
If you don't know when you can get then tell me so.

Fair points, lack of comms, though maybe excusable at times like this, is bad for business.

The vendors I've used show if a radio is in stock or not. They ship next business day if in stock.

UPDATE:
I finally got a tracking number from Zip Scanners earlier today, only after I sent a heated email to them of which can not be repeated here....LOL!
But ya'know, It's really sad that I had to do that in order to get some simple information.

The global supply chain is totally backed up right now. In the US there is not enough trucking capacity to get full containers out of the terminal yard and on the road. There is not enough rail capacity either. The yards are full of product waiting to be picked up. As a result there is no room for empty containers. Those have to go back overseas to other places to be loaded, but the ships that carry then can't be unloaded because the yards are full.

It will likely be months before the back log is jammed. A friend of mine ordered a refrigerator in January and it is still somewhere on a ship waiting to be unloaded.

Appears Icom has been particularly hard hit; IC-7300/IC-9700/IC-R8600 all show at least a month before there will be stock at the usual vendors.
And then there's the long-awaited ID-52A...
Curiously, Yaesu gear seems to be in stock.
I wonder if Icom's supply chain was harder hit than other manufacturers by that fire at the Japanese chip factory.

Some of might have to do with where the radios are actually made, but I don't know.

Last June I had to wait a couple of weeks for my IC 2730A to come in.

@palmerjrusa

My impression is that AKM was Icom's primary supplier of certain semiconductors.

Hopefully the ID-52A will be available here this summer. They are shipping the ID-52 in Japan again after a long delay.

Encouraging news re the AKM fire situation:

At least some chip production is expected to start in around a month's time.

Didn’t hear bad things about Zip Scanners when I bought mine, but they’ll get my business in the future. My scanner was in stock when they said it was, and it shipped fast. Only thing I didn’t like was that the scanner box was a little beat up/crushed but nothing on the inside was damaged.
I had the opposite experience: the scanner was not in stock when they specifically said it was. This old sales tactic is used to take people out of the market. Sorry, 1 strike, and you are out.
