ZONE 4 Site

I have a question I am curious to see if anyone on here knows the answer to.

On Zone 4 the tower I am able to hear from my camp which is before White River. And this tower is probably somewhere West of White River. When I start TRUNK88 after it starts up it tells you all the neighbour towers and that. After all that stuff at the bottom of that list it says: ZONE ALIAS "02WH" current control channel: 142.095 (#452). ZONE ALIAS "02WHTR".

So what I am wondering is: What does it mean by ZONE ALIAS and "02WHTR". Because I only see this on that tower for ZONE 4 I was monitoring with TRUNK88 while I was at my camp. I never seen that on any other towers here in ZONE 3 I have monitored with TRUNK88.

Hi Coolguy,

This is Not-so-cool Guy...think of me as a "reverse Fonz". OK sorry,
enough of that.

The alias is a 6-character site ID which some zones send out, and is
actually useful to us to ID the site locations. Zone 2 was first to use
them, then Zone 1 added them, as you can see in the database.

Apparently Zone 3 doesn't use aliases (yet), I can confirm from using
Treport (which also reports these) and TRUNK88. Keep reporting/submitting
these to the DB as you find them.

By the way I don't see any voice channels for Zone 4 sites. Not everybody
has a scanner than does CC-only on VHF; regardless, it would be nice to
see them added, when confirmed.

Ok. So just to make sure I am hearing you right here. The Zone ALIAS that I wrote in my first post is the name of the site or tower I was listening to and monitoring on TRUNK88 for ZONE 4 like "02WHTR". And if it showed up here in Zone 3 on TRUNK88 for here in Chapleau, it would probably show something similar to "02WHTR" maybe something like: "03CHAP" or whatever.

So the site or tower name would be WHITE RIVER that I was listening to and monitoring to on TRUNK88. And that tower is somewhere probably WEST of White River, since it is the WHITE RIVER Tower according to TRUNK88. So I would then label that site as WHITE RIVER then.

So I will be waiting for any replies to the questions I just asked in this post. Thanks again.

You are correct about the aliases. For example, the site I listen to in zone 1 is Site 18 - Byron. The alias for that site shows as '18BYRN'. So if you are somewhat familiar with the area hopefully you may be able to figure out the cryptic alias and have a rough idea where the site is you are monitoring.
