On migrating to a new Windows 11 computer and reinstalling the Sentinel software for my Uniden SDS 100 I ran into a dependency issue. It refused to install until the Microsoft .NET 2.0 framework was installed. A quick check showed that the current .NET release is version 7. Results from a Google search regarding backwards compatibility reported that .NET 4.5 and newer will run apps requiring older versions. So I installed .NET 7.

However, when I retried installing Sentinel's Setup_BCDx36HP.msi installer I got the same error saying .NET 2.0 was required. A more specific Google search into using a .NET 2.0 app with .NET 7 framework produced the link which follows to an article which resolved the issue perfectly. Long story short, Windows 11 has a compatibility mode that lets the latest .NET framework support apps needing an older version that won't run or install.

How to Enable .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.5 in Windows 11

This was so helpful I thought I would share it here. I found another thread from December 2022 from someone having the same issue. Replies suggested some download as the fix. The solution in the article above just has you enable a setting inside the operating system. I couldn't add my experience to that thread because it was closed, so I created this one here.

Mr Dog,

This is a good learning opportunity for when you have your inevitable next question.

fxdscon was absolutely right. Your's is a question that has been literally asked monthly, for a number of years now. A quick search (upper right of the RR forum webpage) will give you, (in most cases) a wealth of knowledge and is always the first place to start if you have a question about your radio.... If you can't find anything, please ask here.

But try and search first, please.
