Interesting. I have never seen that one before from Havis. Looks like it has its own individually fused power block, which would be a big plus... less wiring to monkey with.

It is manufactured by Brookings Industries and fits both Troy and Havis. My console is a re-worked Stewart which is similar to a Troy. According to Brookings literature the switchplate will fit ANY standard police style console.

Just to be clear... are you referring to the item for sale by an E-Lightbars user (supposedly Havis 7 rocker switch w/built in fuse block) or the 6 rocker switch plate you bought from Galls? I'm kinda presuming you meant the 6 rocker switch panel on Galls.

Jotto Desk and Troy are the only two faceplates/accessories that I am aware of that are "interchangable". The rest are manufacturer specific.

PJ, You are about the 4th person this week to mention Fenix stuff. I've seen their flashlights but not at all familiar with their warning products. Got a link?

Wow!

WX4EMT, This is an awesome setup! I purchased a 2004 4x4 Tahoe this past January to use for storm chasing. I wish I would have seen this before I began my integration. But now I have so many ideas for the rework I had planned for this winter. Looks great, keep it up!

Do you really have ballistic panels in the doors?

Yes sir it does. The second stage buildout was done by Kerr Industries. The build sheet is specific about the additional cooling systems, and electrical modifications, wiring harness, skid plate, remote start and yes, NIJ Treat Level IIIA Kevlar panels are all listed.

No sir, I have no intention of testing it.

(From Kerr)
Ballistic Door Panels (Impala and Tahoe)

The ballistic door panel is installed in the front passenger or driver doors of the vehicle while maintaining the integrity of the door. The panels cover approximately 85% of the door sheet metal and do not interfere with the door functions (window or electrics). Door hinges are reinforced on the Impala model to carry the extra weight of ballistic panel. Lab tested to meet NIJ level 3A specification.

Pretty cool. Only protects from pistol rounds but that's certainly better than nothing!

On a totally unrelated note... what method are you using to turn on/off the MW800?

I've been exploring various options for mine:

1. Manual on/off
2. Ignition control via Motorola pigtail (they still have not given me a price quote yet)
3. Mini-Spark by XOByte (uses WOL tech to startup/shutdown)
4. A more labor intensive device such as MP3Car's shutdown/startup system (more wiring required and not as elegant as the MiniSpark)
5. DIY hack (similar to # 4)

What route did you go, and why?

One person can not order the vehicle brand new from Chevy. Police Package/Special Service vehicles are for cities, counties, states, and municipalities only. Only way to get them is used.

When an agency orders the vehicle, they choose the options at the time of order. Chevy does not do some things, so after it leaves the factory, it is sent to an official GM upfitter that finishes where they left off, like pre-running emergency equip wires, all the way up to installing everything down to lightbars, computers, bumbers, decales etc. It all depends on what the agency wants. That way when they get their vehicle, it can be rolled off the truck, and onto the street thay day, and go to work.

When he got the truck, it was new/used, meaning it was probably brand new, but the agency changed its mine, it was damaged in shipment, even very very minor, was fix, but they can not give it to an agency, or it was not ordered right so it was rejected. At that point, it is sold back to the dealer, and counts as a used vehicle, so now it can be sold to the general public. He lucked out getting those options.

For the computer question. I just got an awesome MW800 from PJ. I plan on just using on and off via the monitor or CPU button. I have the buttons set to "ask me what to do" if they are pressed so, if I hit it accidently while folding the screen down, it wont go to sleep or anything.

I choose the on-off button because it is less hassel, and less chance of anything going wrong. Say I wreck my truck, I can pull it all out hook up the power and still get my stuff off the computer without having to hook up the ignition wire too trying to turn it on. Yeah it would still be simple, but I like really simple.

Also I plan on using a power timer, so after XX min all power to accessories will be killed anyway. So if I leave it on, it will just be killed after a certain point anyway.

Here's an idea...Ever thought putting up a live feed of you going on storm spotting and reporting what you see and etc? I think that would be pretty cool to see what storm spotters and the professionals do everyday.

You may be aware of this already, but Havis has a nice timer for this purpose. I've debated that route myself but I only have a couple of pieces of equipment that are not ignition controlled, and they pull power from the aux battery, so they are not going to leave me stranded if left on constantly.

I forgot about the 'ask me what to do' option on the MW800. I should RTFM again. :)
