Looking for leads on the Uniden SP631 internal speaker on the 436HP. Got a used unit from a friend who retired from broadcasting and it appears the internal speaker is on its last legs. Unit works fine hooked to a Bluetooth speaker. Everything I've found shows the only option of getting it shipped from Europe at the present time. Would rather not pay $100 to ship to Uniden when it appears to be a fairly simple repair.

It could be dirty contacts on the earphone jack. Have you opened the radio and inspected the speaker? It has spring contacts on the back which may need to be cleaned or adjusted.

All are in good shape. Earphone jack is clear as well. There's audio from the speaker but it's clearly blown. Went over the contacts lightly with a pencil eraser like I do with my Motorola batteries when they act up

If the speaker is distorted, the wires on the voice coil may have overheated and came unglued. If you move the speaker cone with your fingers and feel and hear the voice coil scraping on the magnet, the speaker is shot.

That would appear to be the case. Like I said, it was heavily used by an on air broadcaster for a local news radio station. Right now it's finding a lead to getting the part to replace it. I still can't believe how easy the change out is on this unit. I'm only fixing it up so I have something when I have to take the wife's car over my explorer which has equipment mounted.

This came up a few weeks back... Somebody else was looking for one...
Those speakers seem to be out of stock and back ordered everywhere I looked...
Except ebay from across the big pond...
Amazon had them at one time but they show unavailable too...

Yeah. I may just pull the trigger on that. At this point it's the safe bet

Didn’t you say it was $100 shipping from Europe? I wouldnt be happy paying $120 for a $5 speaker either, but I really wouldn’t be happy to find out it was more than just the speaker. Uniden is flat rate.
He was talking about the cost to send to Uniden Repair...

They have the price to ship to the US shown in the list...

Ahhh, I misread his original post.

all good. I think I'm gonna order the eBay one. Can't be any harder than fixing a Motorola. I want to slowly do this over. But it sure receives nice.
