I currently own a Uniden BCD396T. I'm thinking of getting a second scanner and was looking at the BCT8. I'm wondering if the Beartracker Warning function works in Michigan. I remember reading reviews on this model a few years ago and thought I read something about mobile extenders only being used in certain areas of the country by a select few agencies but I can't find any reference to it now. Anyone have experience using the BCT8 in Michigan and have the Beartracker Warning work?

That feature is NOT a reason to choose a radio. If I were to guess I'd say that would work in less than 10 municipalities in the entire state.

If the 'BearTracker' feature is what he wants, then that is a perfectly valid reason for choosing a radio.

That being said, The BCT15X also has the BearTracker feature but is far superior to the BCT8. It does cost a bit more (about $50 more), but the DMA memory, 9000 channels, text/alpha tag display, etc is well worth an extra 50 bucks.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm happy with my BCD396T but was always intrigued by the Beartracker feature. If it's not widely used in Michigan then that may alter my decision. Just looking for a basic analog scanner so I can dedicate my BCD396T to digital scanning. Do you know what the municipalities are that do use mobile extenders in Michigan?

I think you misunderstood the response. The BearTracker doesn't work in Michigan so buying a radio for that feature doesn't make sense.

It's sort of like saying you want a radio that will monitor EDACS systems. But then you find out you have no EDACS in your area. Sort of goes down the priority scale :)

It doesn't really matter which municipalities use mobile repeaters/extenders as they are not what the BearTracker feature is for.

It is advertised for use with "highway patrol link frequencies". State highway patrol repeater input frequencies (not municipal) are preprogrammed and linked to the BearTracker alert feature .
