Based on what I know, The use of blue lights in Ontario is restricted to Law Enforcement and Municipal Snow Removal vehicles.

I work with Military Police in here in Ottawa and asked, they recommended that you either cover the lights or disconnect them from power to prevent accidental activation. Also, keep your identification handy so that the OPP will not bother you so much.

Also, if your plates are tagged as being a VFF, they can see that in the system when they look up your plates (I assume). In Quebec (my province), VFFs are allowed to have blue/red lights on their vehicles if they are en route to their station or emergency scene. But only if they're in their service area.

In Ontario, police use red/blue, snow plows use blue, ambulances and municipal fire vehicles and EMS use red, tow trucks and other vehicles that the public should be aware of, like wide loads etc. use amber (yellow) volunteer firefighters use green on their personal vehicles when responding. Another thing to note ,is that VFF usually only have a single dash light. They do not decorate their vehicles like Christmas trees.

Come on. A real wacker has a light bar that's worth more then his or her personal vehicle - and bigger too.

And you base this on what in respect to "Amber lights"?
Also red lights are fine as long as not flashing or visible to the front.
Actually many other things wrong with your blanket statement.

Mike...

may i just correct you on 1 point Quebec VFF's in Qc can only use forward facing RED or RED / WHITE lights ONLY they HAVE permission from their municipality AND a permit from the S.A.A.Q. (DEPT OF MOTOR VEHICULES). NEVER BLUE! Blue are ONLY for Police in Qc. Many VFF's will use GREEN (forward) and some will use REAR facing Red or Red/White which is "Tolerated" by the SQ & local police..
To sum it up.. in Quebec ANY Qc licensed motor vehicule using Flashing lights including Amber even for Tow Trucks REQUIRE a permit from the S.A.A.Q. with the SAAQ sticker afixed to the Driver's side front windshield.

I've seen private vehicles with the blue light usually on pickup trucks with plows. I presume they have a permit or some type of permission.

In Norfolk County someone near Waterford was pulling over by someone with a blue light.

No one in Ontario has the authorization to pull anyone over with a blue light.
Flashing blue & red is police.
If only flashing blue they better be plowing snow or spreading sand/salt.

your right esp. if lights are not in use, you can even have a siren as long as you don't turn it on.

In Pennsylvania, 360 degree visibility is required by state law. A single dash light doesn't meet that requirement for volunteer firefighters and fire police officers driving their personal vehicles.
