I have no idea how to program in talk groups on a trunked system, I can't seem to find anything on how to except for whistler radios. I want to listen to police, fire, ems, etc. how can learn these trunked system?

BCD996P2. I have programming talkgroups down but the problem is with frequency placement. For the trunked system, do I need to have all the frequencies programmed for each group or just all the frequencies are covered for one system and I just program in the talkgroups?

You are programming sites…site nearest you for example! You need only program the control channels(in red) for the site! Try one nearest you for starters…if you’ve programmed the site correctly the talkgroups that you’ve elected to monitor should pop up!

That's explained HERE.
WOW...I sure am glad I finally moved to scanners that can be programmed with software. Buying and swapping crystals decades ago was tedious enuf...doing a DMA scanner by hand would make me take up knitting!

It is so much faster and easier if you use programming software. If you don't have the DMR or NXDN upgrade, FreeSCAN is all you need and it is FREE! To program DMR or NXDN will require ARC-XT or ProScan. Both of those are paid programs and both have a free trial period to determine which one you like better. You will need software to download from the Radio Reference database.
