Can the TRX-2 scanner handle Mototrbo Capacity plus? I have read some sites that said it will and others say it won’t. I was always led to believe it will only handle DMR conventional but not Cap+ or Con+ Due to license issue. What say you?

None of the GRE/Whistler scanners (or their Radio Shack cousins) truly trunk-track DMR/TRBO or NXDN systems. Instead they simply scan through the site frequencies looking for matching talkgroup activity. Essentially, they're scanner all of the channels conventionally, not unlike the Uniden One Frequency Trunk mode, if you're familiar with that.

If it's a small/slow system with just one or two frequencies and talkgroups, it'll work just fine with the TRX-2.

Seeing as you’re in Nixa , Mo (according to your profile). You MIGHT be lucky enough yo catch some traffic on the new Christian county CAP+. Especially if you use just the Nixa site. But it’s really heard to say as even just that site seems a bit busy. Give it some time and when the new system shows up on the DB give the Nixa site a shot and see if it’ll work and how well it’ll work.

It's the DMR control channel trunking capability that are absent from Whistler scanners. The scanner then needs to scan thru the voice channels to hunt for the TG's it is supposed to monitor. In a less busy system there's no problem or if it's just 3-4 frequencies in a site. In a fully busy system with 4 frequencies, 1 control slot and 7 voice slots, it could probably take 1 second to go thru all channels if the TG call are on the last slot that are scanned and you will loose the first syllable or word in a call. If the call happens to be on the first slot that the scanner checks it will only be a 100mS delay. If a frequency doesn't hold a call it will just skip past that frequency's two slots in 25mS.

I loaded up the Cap+ system in the TRX-2 and it follows the voice channels reasonably well. There are probably only about seven or eight TG of interest to me. If any more show up I will just lock them out.....😃

Out of the talk groups listed I believe only two will show up on each site no matter what. That’s the countywide Fire dispatch and sheriff. All the other talk groups will show up on a specific site. Nixa PD for example will light up the Nixa site only.
