Minneapolis Control Frequencies

OK, why can’t I just get the Minneapolis 800 frequencies for just the police and fire? The ones that are being sent to me are already on my scanner and the ones I keep reinstalling are only buses to go pick up and drop off people?
What is the main 800 frequency for the 2nd Pct and the NE fire Dept? That’s all I’m asking for. That’s what this whole thing is about.

Maybe this will help:

Minneapolis City Center Simulcast Control Frequencies:

856.23750
856.26250
856.76250
856.93750
857.23750
857.26250
857.76250
857.86250

859.43750
859.73750
859.76250a
859.93750

I hope this helps or is what you're looking for. This data is from the RadioReference data base at:

Thank you but I have all of these and none of them will work with the 2nd Pct
I’ve visited and spent more time looking on here then doing other things. I can’t get the right frequencies for the 2nd Pct police and the fire dept. I’ve made 20 phone calls and all I get is, “ We don’t give out our frequencies.”

In reading this, there may be some confusion. Programming a scanner to receive the Minneapolis trunked radio system is more involved than just entering frequencies. You must also enter talkgroup numbers (or TG) which are different "critters" than frequencies You may well have entered the frequencies, but unless you also enter the talkgroup numbers, you won't receive specifically what you want.

I suspect what's going on is this. You've entered the frequencies correctly and your scanner is searching all the talkgroups and landing on the bus talkgroups, called ID SEARCH. What you want to do, it sounds, is limit your scanner to listening to just a few talkgroups (police and fire). That's known as ID SCAN.

Your best bet is to download scanner programming software such as ARC (http://www.butel.nl/), Proscan (http://www.proscan.org/) or Freescan (http://www.sixspotsoftware.com/products/freescan). (Just like folks can debate whether a Nikon is better than Canon, some folks like ARC, others Proscan and others Freescan). All do the job.

When you use the programming software, you get a choice of what "things" you want to listen to. Simply check the desired boxes.

The software will interface your scanner, computer and the radio reference database. It will auto-program your scanner for you. It sure takes a lot of work out of the process, ensures you enter the "numbers" (frequencies and talkgroups) correctly (avoiding typos). This should eliminate the frustrations you have experienced - they sure did for me.

I've used ARC 396 Pro to program my 396T and ARCPRO to program my 396XT for trips to Minneapolis and I'm able to monitor everything I want to.

Well my 396T is getting all the Pcts. Except the 2nd here by me. That’s why I need the exact frequency for this area. No one will give it to me. It’s hidden for some reason. I wrote a letter to the police chief telling him I was a block leader for 80 going to 160 houses. I haven’t heard from anyone. 911 won’t even help me. I think I’ll just resign. Can’t even get the fire stations number. Isn’t this stupid. I feel like I committed a crime.

Please note the difference between "frequencies" and "talkgroups". When you're talking to us "scannerheads", it's like apples and oranges.

I'm sure they've got their reasons for not divulging radio information, but that's okay - everything you need to know is posted on Radio Reference.

If you are receiving precincts 1,3, 4 and 5, I'm stumped why you aren't receiving 2. You should be. The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps precinct 2 doesn't have much radio traffic.

Owing to dispatch center staffing they'll use a 2, 3 or 4 channel assignment plan. See: Hennepin County (MN) Minneapolis - The RadioReference Wiki

Well, this could be a long shot here, but it is possible that you have your 396T in the ID SEARCH mode and that you have somehow locked out the Minneapolis channels that you want to receive. Does the display show ID SCAN or ID SEARCH?

I do see that one of the previous posters already mentioned this. If you can post the answer to this it may be helpful. In either case, select HOLD, then once it stops either searching or scanning, hold the locked button down until it displays ALL UNLOCKED and then see what happens and report back here.

Although I have a BCD996XT and had a 396XT until recently, I think they operate pretty similarly. One thing I wanted to mention is I think if a talkgroups is locked out during an ID SEARCH it is also locked out during an ID SCAN. Thus, if everything else seems to be working properly, try to unlock everything and see what happens.

I know you mentioned hearing something that sounded to me like Metro Mobility. If you had not programmed those talkgroups in, then it leads me to believe that you might be in ID SEARCH mode and since you aren't getting certain talkgroups, they very well may be locked out.

I got the Metro Mobility from a list to use from this company. I deleted them as I heard them. I have it set on found channels now. I’ll just wait to see if I can catch it when it’s scanning. Just waiting. Thanks.

Download Free Scan with this link:
http://scannow.org/files/fssetup-211.exe

Then download this file:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28512467/Minneapolis.996

Then install Free Scan and then open the file and then upload it to your scanner with the cable that should have came with it. Once you uploaded the file DO NOT TOUCH the key pad. Just turn it on and let it go.

If this doesnt work I dont think there is anything else we can do for you since we've tried to explain it every different way we can.

On a side note under no circumstances should you be calling 911 for non-emergency reasons, particularly to get frequencies for your scanner. If theyre talking to you they cant answer calls from real emergencies. Clogged phone lines was an issue with the recent shooting at Accent Signage. Your block patrol isnt important enough to be wasting the time of a 911 operator. In addition this gives us scanner enthusiasts a bad name.

No, your wrong. I appreciate everyone on here that tried to help me. Don’t think I disrespect any of you. I quit my position today because of a stupid government. I won’t be on here again to bother anyone. God Bless all of you and please stay the way you are. Allen.

The government has nothing to do with it. We've provided more than enough information to properly program your scanner including a file that all you have to do is upload to your scanner and let it run. I'm sorry we were unable to make it work for you.

Think of the Armer P25 system as a cell phone system

Think of the Armer P25 trunked digital system as similar to a cell phone system.
There is not a dedicated frequency like the old analog system.
In a trunked system, like a cell phone there is a pool of frequencies that are assigned somewhat randomly.
Every time a radio is keyed up the system assigns a different a radio frequency from the pool.
The user has no control over the frequency used on any given transmission; it’s all controlled internally by the computer.
Your hardware identifies what you want your scanner to stop on based on the Talk Groups you have entered.

Reiterating; Every time the PD keys a mike the computerized system uses a different radio frequency.

My effort to bother all of you. I have already gone overboard bothering you for something that won’t work. As I said, I will not be bothering any of you again. I did enough digging into all of you. It’s time to stop and move ahead. Once again thank all of you for your efforts and pushing you into to much help. My last word to you: God Bless all of you and thank you for your overtime while trying to help me. Now it’s over so lets all move on to the next person you can help. Thank you.
