To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is the radio properly programmed for using the Stored Voice? If not, it needs to be set up by someone who can do the programming.

If it has been properly programmed and the VS doesn't work, it may be time for a repair.

I'm thinking about buying a G1. Anyone recommend a good place to buy from? I found AJ Electronics online, but I've never dealt with them before.

Thanks,

There are a lot of fly by night operations that Unication signed up as dealers. It seems like they signed up anyone with a pulse. Find a reputable shop that has a solid operation so you know they'll be around when you need help. I'd recommend Leavitt Communications. Phil has been in the industry forever and is really knowledgeable.

I'm currently looking at this pager. Due to changes within our county, we need to be alerted on 3 different channels. I think by reading the info on this pager, you can set up a silent scan list with 3 channels in it. Has anybody tried this? Our current tones are below standard so it is hard to demo currently.

This is not practical. Are any of these an alert from another jurisdiction? (For mutual aid, or box alarm.)

The codeplug is available from Unication website.

I know this is an older post. I looked on the Unication website and could not find codeplugs. I contacted Unication asking if I could get a codeplug and have had no response.

I'd like to play with the software before I get my G1. Does anyone have a 495-512Mhz codeplug?

Silent Scan vs Normal Scan

Can someone quickly explain the difference between Silent Scan and Normal Scan?

Thanks,

Silent scan will scan the scanlist setup but won't alert unless it hears a tone set vs regular scan runs like a scanner and will allow you to hear all activity on that channel except you may miss a call or other vital info on a different frequency.

I am a Unication Dealer & also I am a Volunteer Fire Fighter. I carry a Unication G1 pager and let me just say it blows my Motorola Minitor V & VI out of the water. The G1 has better sound quality and is louder. The display is great if your department has different tones so you can see on the Display who's tone went off. The reception in SO MUCH better than Motorola Minitor pagers. The battery life is GREAT as well. They are built tough and as Fire Fighters we are hard on things and this pager stands up to the abuse we dish out. The programming options are endless. I have all kinds of things programmed in my pager just because I can.

If anyone needs to know more, has programming questions, needs repairs or parts just send me a message. If you or your department is looking to demo one of these pagers or wants to buy some let me know as well. I have sold the Minitor pagers before but since I started with Unication I have not sold another Minitor.

Really GREAT Pagers.

I sent you an email as well. You want it set it to delay N Revert for 3.5 seconds. The automatic function is the one that usually provides the problem. At least that's what I've seen

Just wanted to share my experience with the G1 voice pagers.

I maintain our departments communication equipment. After numerous issues with Motorola's customer service and technical service the department decided we would never buy a Motorola pager again.

I bought 2 G1s in 2013 (I believe when they first came out) from Wolfe Communications in Kingston TN. Both shipped fast and price blew new moto5s out of the water. Also ordered programming doc.

(First the Pagers)
The 2 G1 2013 pagers we have, do not have the bumpers on top. They are working almost perfectly. I use mine as a test pager for the other county departments and mine has been reprogrammed probably 150+ times it has been flashed with the new versions of Firm ware 3 times. I said that to say this, I have had 2 issues with my G1 pager. One is that it will not tone out on our county wide weather tone of 553.9. I talked to Wolfe communication and they sent me a new firm ware version hoping that will correct the issue. And yes I have checked the tone and made sure its correct. I flashed the firmware on it today so hopefully it will work. The second has affected both of the 2 original pre bumper 2013 models. The volume knobs on both of them have lost resistance to the extent of being able to turn themselves off while getting in and out of a vehicle or chair. Wolfe communication was aware of the issue and sent me 2 o-rings to slip over the knobs which creates a significant amount of resistance and will no longer switch off accidentally.

(Now the Programming/dock review)
The dock is golden no problems whatsoever.
The software on the other hand is a bear to say the least. I was the first one in North East GA programming these pagers for mutipul departments. The software has changed greatly over the years. The first few version were terrible. I would call wolfe communication while very nice and helpful could not explain what some of the features did and why I was having issues with certain programming functions. Over the years Unication has continuously updated the software and it is in a usable format. I have since programmed / reprogrammed over 100 pagers and their are still a few features that I do not understand.

I have since purchased a total of 7 for our department and all have worked great. We have had few very minor problems. One pager has had its buttons ripped off by its owner who is a rancher, and we have had 1 clip to break. All in all I will say they have held up very very well. We are a rural city Vol Fire department using VHF (Motorola paging) for our pagers and 2 way communications. . All of our members are farmers except for me and 2 others. So the guys are very hard on the equipment.

I have heard of 3 stories where the G1s where subjected to extreme conditions. One was bailed up into a round bale of hay it is still MIA hoping to find it this winter while feeding cows. One was knocked out of a jeep into a mud puddle and sat in the rain/mud for 10+ hours while on, still on with no ill effects. Pager was washed in sink to make clean still no issues. lastly another pager was knocked off belt fell off of back porch on to ground where it laid in rain for 1 night and was still operating wit out issues next morning.

These are great pagers and highly recomind them. Look forward to seeing the multi band models and hope their price point can be similar to the current G1s.
