To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am programming the Unication g! pagers for my department. Does anyone know how to program the weather channel into the pager and have it alert regardless of what channel you are listening to? I understand that it can be programmed this way, but am unsure how to do it. I also have no idea what the weather alert tone is.

Yes, 1050 10 second long time. However can you tell me is this going to be in closed "selective call" or open "Monitor Mode"?

I wouldn't put in the Weather on a public safety pager. It will not scan your tones any longer because it'll always be "stuck" on the weather freq.

Agreed...no weather in dual scan modes for concern of missing pages. However if you really really want to do you can. I have a department that does this. I always caution them but they use one of silent scan modes etc. I told them I refuse to program it in for the fear of pages were being missed I didn't want to be held liable.

You can put it in selective call or monitor mode. it should alert on both. If you set the alert length to 3 sec and put your primary emergency frequency on priority, you shouldn't miss your calls.

I would suggest not doing this. The pagers will trigger for any weather alert in the service area. How about having your dispatch trigger your tones for any significant alert in your area?

I have had my G1 set to selective for 4 different department tones and the WX alert and have never missed a page. Not saying it would never happen. Just remember to set a delay revert so it resets.

How do I change the volume on the alert tone on the programming software or can I do it on the pager itself for the unication G1 pager

There is a menu option for having the alert at a fixed level, or volume control dependent.

An issue I ran into was the disparity between the alert audio level and the radio traffic audio level. I installed Audacity, and edited the .wav file, lowering the level by 9 dB. Obviously, the file's starting audio level factors in.

How do you program the weather into a scan list and only have it alert when the weather service sets off their alerts?

You only want the 1050 tone. Remember it's a broadcast station not 2-way. No other tone is used.

Unfortunately the pager does not decode the modern EAS digital data, so it will trip for any alert sent on that frequency.
