• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yes, it is possible, but not on the ham bands in the USA (gray area). (and yes, I know you're not in the USA)

You can have a private conversation as long as it's not encrypted communications on amateur radio it's allowed , as far as your work repeater that's their call

Let me explain a bit to see if I understand. I belong to the Emergency Radio Network and unfortunately our radios the need to buy us. We want to start the migration to digital and I liked this radio be economically and with many options but I need to know if you have privacy to exchange personal or sensitive data. Our dual DR3000 repeater.

The Tytera advanced encryption key is simlar to a 40 bit key if I may not be mistaken. Granted it's breakable, but secure enough

They fixed a contact deletion bug and spelled "repeater" correctly in the FPP menu.

I'd like to see them fix the volume screen bug and the font/text scroll peeve I have... Oh and variable tone volume so they're not loud all the time. If al that is fixed I could be perfectly happy.

Thank you very much, it was all I needed to know.

Yes just keep in mind that an average 40 bit key with a amateur hacker could break that key with a modern computer in less then 24 hours. So it's not that secure as some may think. 100 bits or high is always preferred when needing decent encryption that cannot be cracked

Sorry to keep rehashing the encryption standard, but I was wrong before. With current firmware updates the MD-380 now offers 128 Bit Enhanced Encryption. Much more secure then the basic 40 bit style. My apologies. I am sure soon enough too in the future they will offer a AES 256 bit key as well. Time will tell that for sure.

Who would have thought a $165 dollar radio would ever offer 128-bit privacy/encryption?

Granted I can't analyze the algorithm they are using, but some basic tests I did proved this enhanced privacy to be pretty good.

Just wish Connect Systems would get off their butt and put this option in the CS-750 firmware so I could key my two 750's to talk with my MD-380's using EP.

CS radio basic privacy is the same as MD-380 basic, so EP should be compatible if they add it. Jerry said they were going to add AES to the 750 sometime in Q3. We will see.

Yeah exactly!! It's actually the first chinese radio that actually you do get what you pay for ( possibly a little more; very good so far with firmware updates/fixes). Motorola is probably really pissed off radios like this in the DMR market hit the streets. Especially with free CPS/Programming cables included. Only thing the big M, Harris and well other major competitors have is their radios are built stronger and can withstand daily work useage in the field whereas chinese radios still feel.. Well... Not as durable. If they fix that then they will really be up there with competitors. Especially for the price point
